Nexus One plays nice

If you have the Nexus One then you know about the cool new feature brought on board to the Android Os. That of course is Voice to Text. Eating pizza and fingers are to greasy to text your friend back because you don’t want to smudge the screen? Or simply because you are driving? No problem! Google has a solution for you. But after all there is a small problem that was discovered by Reuters. While texting a friend using text to speech they discovered a limitation to this feature.

When you decide too speak in a foul manner, the phone decides to show that it has better manners than you. As funny as it is, for some it may become an annoyance. Instead of entering what you said, the phone replaces foul words with # symbols. Reuters got on the phone with a Google person and were told why this censorship is in place.

“We filter potentially offensive or inappropriate results because we want to avoid situations whereby we might misrecognize a spoken query and return profanity when, in fact, the user said something completely innocent,” said Google.

So maybe that is to keep your searches safe but for those who do not want this option maybe Google should add an option to disable this? Until then if you want to insert foul words in a text message I suggest you wipe your fingers off that pizza grease and type it in.

  1. I’m one of those that doesn’t have an upgrade, that can’t afford an N1, and am waiting for the next “keyboard” Android TMo phone. But it’s getting more and more difficult to restrain the admiration of this phone with reviews like these! lol
