Walmart Says No Nexus…ATM?

I fall asleep and the world falls apart. Ok, not really but Walmart issued a response to the Nexus One ad that was posted on their website. They are blaming a “technical error” on the “accidental” post and claim they will not be selling the Nexus One in Walmart stores or online… “at this time”. Are the specs that were posted an accident as well? Maybe we aren’t going to see the support for 1xEvDO & UMTS/HSDPA 850/1900 on a single device. Walmart did not address the specs so, who knows…

Here is the response courtesy of Android and Me:

“Sorry to disappoint but we have no plans to carry Nexus One in Walmart stores or online at Walmart.com at this time. Due to a technical error, this item erroneously was displayed on our site. We’re working with our partner Let’s Talk to have it removed as quickly as possible, and apologize for any confusion.”

The question that remains is: Is this really a mistake or did someone screw up and post it too early? Leave a comment and let us know what you think.

Umm… The Nexus One is only available from Google direct. So why would Wal-Mart carry the phone. Not even T-Mobile sells it and they offer service for the phone.

I am not sure you are comparing apples to apples here. It was once said that the Iphone will ONLY be sold by ATT but there is a lot of talk that this may not always be the case. Walmart, THE LARGEST RETAILER IN THE COUNTRY may very well be in talks with Google to sell the phones. Google had a hell of a time with their direct sales and pretty much have a black eye to show for it. With only 20,000 Nexus One phones the first week, they may be looking for some better return. Using Walmart could bring in a lot of revenue. The price is another story.
