Bravo Update: Running Eclair? New Line of Androids?

Turns out that the Bravo is not going to run Sense UI.  On T-mobile’s description of the device in there streamline, it’s said to be running Eclair 2.1,.  The Bravo is pretty much the Nexus One, with a more rubber-like-material on parts of the phone.  As well as some hardware buttons.  I got confirmation that I’ll have the device a month before it’s release, so many video’s will be posted on this site.  Oh yeah, one other thing I forgot to mention.  Bravo is hitting T-Mobile mid April, 2010.  I’ll have the exact date in another two weeks. Again, I’ll post more as soon as I know more.

I have one other thing that i’ve been investigating.  According to my source, T-Mobile is getting a small line of Android devices for the everyday users.  T-Mobile and Google are working on a line of phones, that essentially run Android, but is not at a smartphone level.  A device with a simple user interface, that will attract the less geeky area of the Google’s customers.  I don’t know much about it, but will soon.  It seems like a good idea, that would help out Google’s marketing strategy, which so far isn’t a good one.

  1. if i can buy a bravo and keep my plan, sign me up. i dont want to lose my plan with the N1 or pay over $500. then again, it might be that much for the bravo

I’m not sure. If you’re with T-Mobile I recommend getting their No-Contract plans. However, that takes away your upgrading rights. BUT. If you have enough credit on the account you can buy the Bravo and makes small payments on each bill.

LOL I’ve seen the Streamline myself, and several Tmo Employees have comfirmed this. So I guess they just don’t tell you much at your work bud. Sorry.

  9. Isn’t there a hack to add Sense UI? Either way, i dont care what anyone says about it…Bravo is much prettier than N1 and i dont wanna have to hassle with Google running me to Tmobile and HTC for their own eff ups!

    • NicholasBobo

Well as soon as it comes out, someone (not me lol) will figure out how to root it. Once that is done. You can flash a Hero Rom onto it. I recommend MLIGN Hero ROM. They’re the best I’ve seen so far.

I wish it came with Sense UI already, I was really bummed when I found out it was Eclair.

    Nicholasbobo,
I work in retail and use streamline daily. I can assure you the HTC BRAVO is mentioned no where within streamline currently. Im not sure if the UK version varies from US but its not mentioned at all. Knowing all Tmo employees have access to it they wouldnt post it there and risk a possible leak.

    • NicholasBobo

I don’t know if there Us and Uk streamlines are different. I assume they are not. However, I have had confirmation on the Bravo hitting T-Mobile US in mid April. I’m not quite sure if I saw it on the Streamline, or a different server showing it’s release for I am not familiar with Streamline. I’ll look more into this, and find out more accurate information regarding the Bravo.

I will say that we will see it in T-Mobile due mid April.

What does Sense add to Eclair 2.1?

    • Sense UI and Eclair 2.1 are two different User Interfaces that can run on Android. Sense UI is HTC’s take on Hero. It’s features on the GSM Hero, Sprint Hero, and the Droid Eric. Eclair 2.1 is essential down to the basics Android. It’s like Android is now on stock devices, with more features and little differences. There is also MotoBLUR which is Motorola’s take on Android. And Samsungs Android thing featured on the Galaxy. Which I try not to think about…..

I assume you know that if it says eclair 2.1, it still can run sense. right? there is no reason for htc to make it without sense. you are wrong on this one buddy. waiting for pics for confirmation thought. thanks

    • RayPoole

You’re right but if you recall the MyTouch 3g which is practically the same phone as the Magic runs Sense UI on the Magic, but not the MyTouch 3G. Why? because T-Mobile pulled the Sense UI.

What Chris says is true, 2.1 eclair does not rule out sense ui.
2.1 eclair is the actual OS and Sense is a ui overlay with kernal modifications.

For example the HTC Hero was described as running android 1.5 cupcake with sense ui.

Any none google branded handset from HTC is going to be running HTC Sense, the HTC Magic 32A was an exception due to since still being in development at the time.
