Bad news for you Droid owners. It appears as though someone at Motorola made a boo-boo and you will NOT be receiving the rumored 2.1 update this week.  Sorry guys and gals.

The forums manager, Matt, posted that the information was prematurely released and they are embarrassed.

BGR also found that “the Droid update page on Motorola’s website has been pulled and all links to the update page have been deleted from the forums.”

Care to explain, Motorola? Hmmmm?

UPDATE: Sorry folks. Appears there was some confusion in what Matt was actually referring to in his post. Looks like the update is still scheduled for this week. ;)

Matt’s updated post explained that it was just the details that were prematurely released.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear.
The details posted here and on the Support site were prematurely released for public view. They have been removed from both places. Hope that clears up the confusion

Thank you “Andrew” for clearing that up for us.

Wow. I think I’m going to wait until I can finally switch the T-Mobile (cheaper than Verizon!!) and just get the Nexus One. Clearly, Motorola can’t get their s*** together with the Droid, and it doesn’t look like they ever really will.

How do you figure they cant get their sh** together? The Droid has not been out for very long so I would not really expect them to have a major update ready by now. If you want a Droid with all the 2.1 features (and more) its readily available to you…if you want the ‘stable’ 2.1 release with a lot of quality control testing you will need to wait for it…and currently Moto is right on track.

How do you figure they are on track when obviously they don’t even know where the track is and are admittedly embarrassed for it.

          • DT

Developing and testing updates often takes additional time when issues are found…this is not unusual. The bitching and moaning from everyone if they released a buggy update would be much louder than the outcry from them not releasing it this week. I don’t see a problem here.

Tmobile has the worse foot print of them all. I would wait for the Verizon one or (gulp) the ATT version.

Although VZW is expensive, you might want to consider Sprint, or just changing plans. T-Mobile is good for most, but there is a coverage difference. I made the switch due to price also, for me it was a mistake.

NO! I am not saying T-mobile is bad, what I am saying is coverage is different and depending on where you are, the savings may not be worth it. And the Nexus One is going to VZW in a couple months.

haha, ok kudos for admitting the error, and the correction. i’m just on a “rampage” from every tech blog out there parroting gizmodo, and then every droid user catching wind and complaining, all when motorola has released all but 2 or 3 official statements. such is the nature of the interwebz, i guess…thanks!

        • Tom R.

I know one thing,,,,,If Apple would go with Verizon or Tmobile, I would be off my droid and into a 3GS immediately.

        • CaraHulett

No problem. I would prefer that the correct information was passed along even if it makes me look dumb. Bright side is at least I wasn’t the only one that misunderstood, LOL. ;)

I couldn’t be happier with my Droid. Any additional updates, despite Motorola’s error in cummunication, is just an awesome bonus. Thanks for standing by your product and customers Motorola!

How can anyone possibly be happy with droid since it doesn’t have hands free. What were they thinking? It does have a lot of features but doesn’t operate well as a phone.
