Verizon’s Next Android Device. The Saygus VPhone.

Recently Verizon and Skype teamed up, so we all figured the next thing in store was a Video Chat Device.  Well, here it is. The Vphone.

The Vphone presented by Saygus is a full QWERTY slider running Android OS.  It’s packed with a Marvell PXA 310 processor with a clock frequency of 800 MHz and is designed to work in networks of CDMA2000 EV-DO Rev.  The screen is 3.5″ WVGA, with 512 RAM and 512 ROM.  It’s also powered by a 1500 mAh battery.   The Vphone also includes stereo bluetooth, wifi, and a FM radio.  It will be shipped out with Android 1.6.  Release date on this device is still unknown, as well as price.

For a video chat device, I’m surprised that it’s not built with a Snapdragon 1GHz or even a Dual Core Processor, like the HD2.

The idea of the device, is to communicate via video using Skype software on the Verizon network.  This will be the first device to host such features, and it will be a good step up move for Verizon after the release of the Droid.  It makes us Android users proud to see Android as the chosen OS for the Vphone.

Here are some Specs for you guys.

OMG. This phone actually looks good. I want it but I don’t have Verizon :( . WHY CANT MOTOROLA MAKE PHONES LIKE THESE FOR TMOBILE? The Cliq is not fast enough for me. 800MHz + QWERTY + Front Facing Camera = Really Interesting Device. Note how I didn’t say Really Great Device because I don’t know how feasible video chat would be (that’s what I’m assuming they’re aiming towardS) without wifi.

It says it does have wi-fi actually. :-) What I want to know is why is it running Android 1.6 rather than 2.0 or 2.1 and it seems like a video chat device would want to use the fastest hardware availalbe…

      • You mean software =p. I’m surprised to, I’m sure an OTA update will be launched after the device is. I’m more shocked its only cloking at 800MHz. For a video chat device, it seems it would need a little more speed.

No no no, that’s not what I meant. Sorry for the confusion but I was saying that I don’t think video chat would be feasible on anything but WiFi and WiFi is still not accessible EVERYWHERE 3G/EDGE is (which would not have enough speed to allow video conferencing). I do agree with you about the 1.6 version being stock. I don’t see why manufacturers are putting on 1.6 when they can easily put 2.0 at least.

To all the uniformed this phone can make video calls over all 3 WIFI,3G,EDGE.Seen it done. That is why this phone is unique from all the rest and quite under rated and appreciated in my eyes. From what I have heard from Saygus it will not be sold directly but it will be fully compatible with Verizons frequencies. That means that it will be sold just like the Nexus One, andGeeksPhone. Hopefully though that will change because this phone should be in many a fans and faithful Androiddicts hands.I know I will have it,how about you?
