Do you ever wonder which mobile carrier has the best 3G network in the US? If yes then first thank PC World. They tested all 3G Networks between Dec 2009 to Jan 2010. And now the results are here. AT&T has taken the lead followed by Sprint. T-Mobile is at third and Verizon is  last in average tests. I am little amazed that Verizon is in last position. The speed tests were conducted in Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Denver, New Orleans, New York City, Orlando, Phoenix, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, and Seattle on both mobile phones and laptop data cards. Have a look on the photo below.

PCWorld Speed Tests

You can see that AT&T really improved a lot in a year. The result of last spring is :

  • AT&T: average download speed 812 Kbps, average upload speed 660 Kbps
  • Sprint: average download speed 808 Kbps, average upload not listed in article
  • T-Mobile: not tested, no significant 3G footprint at time of testing
  • Verizon: average download speed 951 Kbps, average upload speed 426 Kbps

And now AT&T’s average download speed is 1410 kbps. Well done AT&T. Last year Verizon was ahead. But now AT&T has taken the lead.Verizon average download speed is little decreased as compared to the new result . So I think, Verizon, it’s time to come back in action. Here is the new result:

  • AT&T: average download speed 1410 Kbps, average upload speed 773 Kbps
  • Sprint: average download speed 795 Kbps, average upload speed 396 Kbps
  • T-Mobile: average download speed 868 Kbps, average upload speed 311 Kbps
  • Verizon: average download speed 877 Kbps, average upload speed 434 Kbps

How is your experience on your carrier’s 3G network .

This has got to be fake or a lie..

Several months ago wired.com did a survey. An Verizon came fastest at around 1700kbps and tmo was 2nd, sprint was 3rd and att 4th at 800kbps..according to this survey every carrier has dropped speeds by 50% and att has improved by 100%…impossible..more like the opposite is true and att paid pcworld

I read an article last month about how att was going to put billions into their network because of all the complaints about dead zones around the New York city area.

That 7.2mbps is not supported everywhere if Im not mistaken. They started testing in Philadelphia but not sure what they have expanded if anywhere else yet.

I have heard for quite a while that AT&T has the fastest 3G network. However, going from “fastest” to “best” is a bigger leap than it may appear. While it does seem to be true that when you have 3G connectivity, AT&T is fastest, it also has a rather small footprint compared to Verizon!

Unfortunately for AT&T, all of those commercials from Verizon are true. V just has a much, much larger coverage area. So, if you live in a large city and don’t plan on leaving that area very often, and don’t mind that you have a good chance of losing 3G if you do, then AT&T is a great option. For everyone else, though, Verizon is probably your best bet.

It’s not really clear cut enough to say who is “best”. AT&T has fastest, but bad coverage. Verizon has great coverage, but slower speeds. Up to you.

I do understand all of the hate toward AT&T. They have the fastest network, and the best phone. Just like that coverage argument… Verizon does have that multi-tasking problem. I have used both. AT&T is better! They both have their own problems. By the way… Verizon rents space on AT&T towers, and I’m sure probably vice versa. They are both making idiots out of bloggers as they both rake in money TOGETHER! AT&T has a public relations problem with a long history of Ma Bell screwing over its customers. I think all of AT&Ts hate is rooted in that long history. One of my best friends feels the same way about Google. He calls it their Arrogance. So, he won’t be buying an Android phone anytime soon. I imagine it is the same for AT&T. It’s just like the Dallas Cowboys! You either hate them or you love them.

Verizon’s network destroys AT&T in Miami, Fl. I also know that in rural areas of northeast Ohio, verizon and sprint are the only available 3G networks. I can’t wait for a verizon iPhone.
