I love gadgets. I love Android. I love Android gadgets.

I want an Android tablet, coffeemaker, refrigerator, car, kid (this one is currently in the works), etc… At this point, we can go ahead and call it a little obsessive.

tab

But it looks like a little known company called Haleron is all set to help me entertain my obsession.

They are releasing a cute (and by cute, of course I mean manly so don’t be scared of it guys.) little 7″ Android 1.6 based tablet called the iLet Mini HAL. I’m not sure how I feel about the name. I don’t particularly have an affinity for things starting with an “i”. And it’s not exactly a beast running a 600MHz VIA CPU with 128MB of RAM but it’s only $199 so it might be worth a try.

The Haleron iLet Mini HAL will start shipping next week. It’s available in black or white. I doubt it will sell like the iPad but it’s already looking more useful to me.

Specs

1. CPU: VIA ARM with Freescale MX  Integration 600MHz

2. 7″ TFT LCD TOUCH SCREEN /Resolution: 800*480

3. Multimedia Codes: Supports MP3/Audio Format ,AVI, Motion JPEG/Video Format supports word docs, excel, powerpoint, youtube, games, severa video formats,ePub, text, html eBook formats,

Looks like a great buy! Is there anywhere else to see pictures or any other more power configurations?

The 128 MB of RAM it carries is just dismal, as almost ALL Android handsets with smaller screen have at least 256 MB of RAM. Makes me seriously question its performance when it had to release/allocate memory all the time.

    • Cara Hulett

I agree. As is the 600 MHz processor. I did forget to mention that it will also have 2GB of onboard memory. Like I said, it’s hardly a beast and I’ve spent more on a phone. But for anyone that loves Android and has the cash to spend, it doesn’t seem like a horrible purchase to me.

Ok, It is obvious how bias you are towards anything android. That being said – what a piece of junk.
Do you mind explaining why this is “looking more useful” than the Ipad to you?
    THanks

“Ok, It is obvious how bias you are towards anything android.”

No shit sherlock. You solved another mystery.

In the end it still multi-tasks.

The site you’re on is called AndroidSPIN. It wasn’t a coincidence that I started writing for it.

“I love gadgets. I love Android. I love Android gadgets.

That being said – What makes you think I’m biased? :P

See david1171′s reply for the answer to your question about why I think this measly lil Android tablet is more useful than the oversized, “wannabe a tablet but I’m really just a ridiculously expensive e-reader that you’ll turn on once and never pick up again except for when you dust your coffeetable” iPad.

      • Phil

Thats all you have to hang your hat on – multitasking??? Well thank god for taskiller and hard reboots or my MyTouch wouldnt budge! I own a android phone, its ok at best – feature and stability wise it does not compare to a Iphone…. The only reason I left the Iphone was because of awful call quality from AT&T, and it was just too slow being jailbroken and running on tmobile. A CDMA Iphone, or open platform RIM / symbian os will smush android. ;)

        • david1171

point noted and no damn given.

        • Cara Hulett

Well that’s not all, I also said because I love Android more. And we were talking tablets VS e-readers but apparently you want to compare handsets…so I’ll leave you with this:

          3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED touchscreen
          800 x 480 pixels
          5 megapixels
          Qualcomm QSD 8250 1GHz
          Android 2.1

          and my newest reason:

          Cyanogenmod 5.0.4

          • Phil,
I am not sure how or why somone would come to an android website and start bashing an android device. Of course the android tablet will be better than the non multitasking iPad. The fact that your Mt3G couldnt handle what you wanted it to is not a problem with Android. It is the hardware that is at fault. Android does not start all of those apps (well the google services they do) so Android is not at fault for you phone needing task killer.
And YES, I love gadgets, android and android gadgets too. But that does not mean that I cannot look at this objectively.
Cara Hulett: Those are Damn Good Specs! Where can I get a phone like that?

Looks great, but it’s probably a scam.

If nothing else, at least it’s suspicious that there are no “hands-on” reviews, and every website that reports this device has the same rendered image, no “real” photos.

    Buyer beware!

Wow…the IPad defenders are like Palin supporters…they dont have clue.

Even if this thing comes with 128MB it’s upgradeable. For some reason Apple Kool aid drinkers think Multitasking is something Witches do.

The fact is the iPad is a big display sized iPhone. Apple screwed up big. Go spend your 500 dollars and deal with Steves mood swings. But dont take it out on Android fans.
