A post on Phandroid bring news of Apple Suing HTC for patent infringement on 20 different things. These patents are related to the iPhones GUI, every other day Apple is applying for another patent or has a new idea. There’s no word on exactly what the claim has in it, If anyone knows post a comment and we will keep you guys updated.

Apple Sues HTC for Patent Infringement
CUPERTINO, California—March 2, 2010—Apple® today filed a lawsuit against HTC for infringing on 20 Apple patents related to the iPhone’s user interface, underlying architecture and hardware. The lawsuit was filed concurrently with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and in U.S. District Court in Delaware.
“We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”
Apple reinvented the mobile phone in 2007 with its revolutionary iPhone®, and did it again in 2008 with its pioneering App Store, which now offers more than 150,000 mobile applications in over 90 countries. Over 40 million iPhones have been sold worldwide.
Apple ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh. Today, Apple continues to lead the industry in innovation with its award-winning computers, OS X operating system and iLife and professional applications. Apple is also spearheading the digital media revolution with its iPod portable music and video players and iTunes online store, and has entered the mobile phone market with its revolutionary iPhone.

Apple did not reinvent anything, they evolved a field where palm and microsoft had been for a long time. They did it nicely, but didnt invent anything. This patent crazyness is freaking absurd.

Name ONE THING that apple has produced/patented that they didn’t STEAL from somebody else.
And I mean for real.
Forget about all the junk that apple CLAIMS to have invented… I mean things that they ACTUALLY invented.
Answer: Not one thing ever.
And I have a SERIOUS problem with this: “Apple reinvented the mobile phone in 2007 with its revolutionary iPhone, and did it again in 2008 with its pioneering App Store”… I call B.S.!!!!
There was NOTHING revolutionary about their phone, either in hardware or in software.
And online software stores have existed for MUCH longer than apple’s….
Not that I’m particularly fond of HTC mind you… quite frankly, HTC could DIE for failing to properly support their hardware, specifically failure to provide drivers for ADP1/2 in a timely manner (if ever — haven’t to date, though we do have HACKED drivers for it), and on top of that, installing their CRIPPLEWARE on ANDROID phones, the so called “sense” — ugly resource hogging uselessness.
Rant over.
Whoever wins this, I don’t care since I’ve chosen a path where it won’t affect me at all.
Whoa slow your roll there cowboy. First of all, HTC does provide hardware drivers for the hardware and support for the OS version that a phone is “supposed” to be on. IE the G1 is supposed to be running Android 1.6 (not 2.01 or 2.1) Just because they didn’t provide drivers to make you feel like your G1 is a Nexus one doesn’t mean in any way they don’t support you. On a stock OTA G1, everything works just fine.
Now I do agree with the sense UI statement. That is slow and resource hogging.
On the apple BS, I agree there too. Give them a little while and they will be trying to sue YOU! Because you will have said iFarted. Cuz any comment or sentence that starts will ‘i’ means that you are copying them.
I think he was talking about driver source code, which is rather important for a hardware development platform.

Really? Is that why HTCDream (G1) is only running 1.5 and HTC nor my phone provider had no intentions of updating past that? Plus withheld information about a major bug stating the 1.5 software was fine enough! Then put together some halfassed fix that crippled Gs and left Magics with its crappy Sense UI both STILL with 1.5 OS 4 months after it was made available.

I agree with Michael Dugger. Many of Apple’s patents are very superficial and in a court of law they may well be dismissed. Steve Jobs is becoming afraid of the HTC-Google combination. This is the first time they are “feeling” the competition in the smartphone field.
