Innocomm Technology: The New Kid on the Block with cheap(er) and possible super phones

Taiwan based Innocomm Technology has superb plans to bring us Android lovers a high end phone for non-high end prices. Being a mobile phone developer  for Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and LG, Innocomm Tech brings a combined 350 years of experience to the table. With all this experience and time spent building phones, I hope they can redo a rather uninformative website. Their goal, a super goal in Starbucks corporate speak, would be to bring us super phones at a subsidized price of $Free with an annual contract. With this said, they have a reported long list of devices slated for release, the first being The Shark.

The Shark

The Shark has superseded the company’s other phone, the Skate, due to a change inthe Skate’s chipset. The Shark is now being pitched as the Nexus One minus all the money required to purchase it.  Currently its planned to be released sometime in May or June of this year with unspecified “select carriers” for exactly $0.

Specs include:

  • 3.2″ Touch Capacitive LCD
  • 800 x 400 pixel resolution
  • 115mm x 58mm dimensions
  • 8 MP Camera with flash
  • 3.5mm head phone jack
  • MiniUSB
  • microSD expansion slot (up to 32GB support)
  • GPS
  • 3G
  • HSPA
  • Wifi
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • Analog TV Receiver

The interesting thing to note is the TV receiver. Currently, the chip is analog only, but Innocomm has plans to include a digital receiver for a later release date. Viewing of television is extremely popular in areas like China, where Innocomm hopes to tap into, but they also hope it takes off in other areas as well.

Innocomm sounds dedicated to the Android OS. Good news for us fans, bad news for WinMo fans: “Windows is nice, but it can’t beat the price on Android. It’s free and the Google brand is already well known. Android is the only OS we’re working on.”

Between a price point of free and an inclusion of a built in TV tuner, where does this put the phone at in terms of the Nexus One’s superphone status? Let us know in the comments.

How exactly is this close to the Nexus One? 3.2″ screen and possibility not AMOLED.

  2. Tom

If you knew anything about anything, you’d know the OLED screen is what makes the Nexus One screen look so shitty. I kinda agree on size, though 3.2″ isn’t a deal breaker necessarily. What it does need is Android 2.1+

  3. Tom

Another thing, no processor info? Err, the whole reason the Nexus One is so nice is because of the crapdragon, or poopdragon as cyanogen calls it.

that is one piece of info i could not find. their main link to the n1 is based off performance, so its gotta be decent

The screen isn’t a deal breaker.. But that thing seems to be pretty responsive from the video. It might be packing some decent hardware.

It seems to run just as fast as the Droid Eris…. I’ll lay money it runs a 528MHz processor… That thing is sluggish at best…
