Martin Cooper

It has been confirmed by CSPAN that Martin Cooper, the inventor of the cell phone, is an official member of the Android Community. You can follow Martin on Twitter, his twitter ID is @MartyMobile.

Martin gave his iPhone to his grandson in favor of a Motorola Droid. Good move Martin! What better of an endorsement to the Android Community than the inventor of the cell phone picking up an Android phone. I wonder if Martin’s phone is rooted? Could he be running the latest 2.1 custom ROM all theme’d out?

The big question now is, will Martin dump his Motorola Droid when the Nexus One hits Verizon? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

I’m not too sure I care about this that much. Personally, I don’t think that because he invented the cell phone over 30 years ago that that has anything to do with the ultra-modern Android OS. I know people who built computers in the later 50s through the mid-90s and have a hard time with the extremely modern technology. Perhaps he is well up to date but just because he invented a device more than three decades ago, doesn’t mean much for today.

    Hey Tom,

How about showing some respect for the cell-phone inventor? If not for him, we’d still be plunking quarters into public phones in phonebooths and be tied to landlines at home and in the office.

I think it’s significant that he uses Android instead of the mighty Apple device. Nice endorsement of the new technology and another reason for Steve Jobs to quake in his boots.

  8. There are several advantages to the cell phone and the one that comes to mind first is connectivity. Be it to friends and family or to search for different items on the internet then the cell phones are an advantage.
