We’ve heard a lot about the HTC Hero getting an Android 2.1 update soon, but when? First, we heard it 2 months ago that the Android 2.1(Eclair) for HTC Hero is a couple of month away, and then during the Mobile World Congress HTC CEO announced that all Hero devices will get Android 2.1 and Latest Sense UI. Anyone know the exact date? It was expected in March and now we are now half way through the month.
A member of Swedroid received a reply from HTC Sweden with another date! They state that the Android 2.1 is expected sometime in April but this release is not set in stone.
We know that HTC is considering some new Android device’s, the HTC Legend & Desire, and it appears they are not giving time to Hero.
I hope they will release it soon.

Sprint has been “testing” 2.1 for about a month and a half now, so it’s when sprint decides that it is an alright OS to release that I’ll see it. Blame the carrier, not the company.

Way to lose customers. I loved my Hero until about a month after 2.1 was released, and I am still on 1.5. Now, I just wish I had never gotten onto the fucking HTC bandwagon. They and Sprint can both fuck off. I will never purchase another HTC device, or sprint contract. Give me one good reason why a company would neglect its most well known and reviewed phone. Corporate strategy makes no sense to the consumer, maybe once said consumer realized that those corp. strategies exist solely to take as much money from the consumer as possible, while putting out the least expense necessary, as well as engaging in unfair business practices to hamper the competition, then perhaps those corp. strategies, made by the worlds 1% of wealth holders, would have to change. until then, 99% of the population will continue to be screwed over by the rich and elite 1%.
Because the damn phone is slow and I’ll bet that they are running into roadblocks testing the new 2.1 on these slow processors. I love my Hero until I try to run it for a few days without rebooting. The available memory sucks. This damn this is slow at times until I clear the memory. It doesnt take a genius to figure out that they are having big problems as with the other phones with similar processor. I’m tired of seeing those snappy iphone vids where going from one thing to the other is a breeze. I’m just waiting on the next delay for 2.1. I cant wait.

If you are running a task killer, you should be fine. I do notice that every now and then it will load up Sprint Navigation and 4 or 5 other items, but it’s not like I’m losing sleep over it. If it seems slow – check the task manager.

If you guys are complaining and cant wait for the release (which is still probably being tested) then just download the rom and install it yourself, it’s a very good phone regardless of the version of android its running and as the saying goes “good things come to those who wait”

I won’t be surprised if the Hero update will come out after both the Legend and Desire are in the shops, so not to eat into pre-orders for the new phones.

I had it side by side my Nexus and saw no huge differences. True, livewallpapers don’t work on the Hero version, but who cares.

HTC has already released the software update to the carriers. It’s been done since January. Right now, carriers are testing it and putting their applications and features into it. People need to get a life. Not to mention learn how to research before bashing. Blame your carrier if you must. HTC is working hard, and they really didn’t have to update it anyway. HTC has a bad habit of losing focus on their products once they are released. Staying on to support an already released product is a career killer. The action and advancement is always being on the team putting together the next killer device. Why would they sex up the Hero when they have products like Supersonic coming out? The lower priced Hero would cannibalize the higher margin new products. Then after Supersonic they will have 6 more new devices in development, etc. Thus, what you get from HTC is what they release on day one. Buyer beware.

This is why i got rid of my android/linux bag of shit hero crapphone and swapped it for a htc touch hd! the hero is a pile of crap its slow boring small screen shit camera and you poor fuckers still waiting for that fuckin update where as i got manila 2.5 on my energy rom its wicked windows mobile 6.5 is better more reliable faster and better than fragmented shit linux i mean android lol android is a dog end of take my advice get a touch hd and sell the hero to some muppet lol

I was recently at an IT trade show a week ago where HTC were exhibiting the legend and one of the HTC staff let slip that HTC had no plans to release 2.1 for the Hero untill “after” the release of the Legend in mid-May!! I hope this is NOT true.

Frankly, I’d be upset if I had an IPhone, I mean what major changes has Apple released in the past 3 years. They haven’t even fixed some of the major issues their consumers have been complaining about. At least with HTC, they address known issues and when newer phones are released with new features, even if a known update for your phone isn’t available, you can root your phone and usually find a rom with those features and updates built into it. And it doesn’t take much to do it, step by step help is available all over the net. As for those of you who say you will switch to Apple just because you’re upset that they’ve changed the release dates. Bear in mind, no manufacturer or carrier guarantees rom updates much less gurantees release dates. That’s just the reality of it. Realistically, how can they possibly know what coding or compatability issues they will have to hurdle with the variances between each phone and manufacturer before the release date? Look, there’s no arguement here that the iPhone is some ways a better phone than the Hero, but theres no way its THAT much better to warrent paying the cost of the IPhone and what AT&T charges to provide service to the IPhone. With the Hero, you get most of Iphone features and some not available on the iPhone for a heck of alot less. As far as carriers go, Sprint not only gives you more unlimited services (including GPS, TV and other bonus features), but with Sprint, you have the flexibility to upgrade your phone EVERY year instead of every two like most carriers like AT&T offer. So it’s easy and relatively inexpensive to keep up with the latest technology. As far as I’m concerned it’s a no brainer and the best is yet to come. By this time next year, I’ll be rockin a new phone that will rival the IPhone complete in processing speed and app features and combined with what I paid for the Hero, I’ll still have spent less than the cost of an IPhone. You boys need to be more realistic, do your homework and stop your whining.

With the Hero, you get most of Iphone features and some not available on the iPhone for a heck of alot less. As far as carriers go, Sprint not only gives you more unlimited services (including GPS, TV and other bonus features), but with Sprint, you have the flexibility to upgrade your phone EVERY year instead of every two like most carriers like AT&T offer. So it’s easy and relatively inexpensive to keep up with the latest technology. As far as I’m concerned it’s a no brainer and the best is yet to come. By this time next year, I’ll be rockin a new phone that will rival the IPhone complete in processing speed and app features and combined with what I paid for the Hero, I’ll still have spent less than the cost of an IPhone. You boys need to be more realistic, do your homework and stop your whining.
