If Apple think that iPad is the only tablet around, they are totally wrong. The Apple iPad is not out yet but their competitors are working hard to beat the iPad out the door.
After the Archos Android Tablet, another tablet known as WePad, manufactured by Neofonie has been announced. The WePad is a really nice looking Android powered Tablet.
So, what’s under the hood of this little beauty:
- 11.6 inches (1366 x 768)
- Intel Atom N450 at 1.66 GHz
- GMA 3150z
- Memory of 16 GB NAND Flash (or 32 GB internal + 32 GB optional SD card)
- Webcam
- 2 USB ports
- Flash card reader
- UMTS modem
- 6 hours of battery life
- Adobe Flash and Air support
No words on the price and release date of the Tablet.
More info can be found on the manufacturers site here ( translated to English )

6hrs battery life? We all know from experience what that means – 3 or 4 hours in real world usage. The iPad will be bad enough with 10 hours claimed which may be as little as 5 or 6 hours of real world use. So the WePad offers the things everyone complains about the iPad lacking but it is paid for with half the battery life. Great! I think I will stick with the iPad rather than go with a quickly cobbled together look alike with poor battery life.

I don’t get it.. tablet computers have been around for years and no one bought them… enter Apple and all of a sudden everyone wants one? WTF is wrong with people?? As for the WePad… give me a break! I mean be the specs what they may… I wouldn’t get one of these just because of the pathetic name.

I’d rather the WePad.
Reason 1:
It has Flash! How the iPad can still call itself a tablet is beyond me. Apple’s decision to add a flash player to its product is depriving it’s uses of a good amount of content on the internet. Although, like the iPhone/iPod touch, the iPad will have a YouTube application, we tend to run into the problem that our favorite blogs or news websites doesn’t use YouTube to publish their videos. Besides that, I like gaming but I dont like spending 1-5 dollars for an app that I could easily play online for free.
Reason 2:
The Camera. One thing that I was really expecting that would have made the whole thing worth it was the Camera. This one is pretty self explanatory since we all know what a camera is capable of. Apple just want to nickle and dime us with all of the add-ons. I suppose this is also why the iPad doesn’t have any usb drives.
Reason 3:
All of the little things. There is a key difference that makes the WePad better (for me) as a tablet then the iPad. I already have an iPhone, I don’t need a bigger one. When I look for a new computer I want just that, a computer. The WePad has a 1.66 ghz processor which is more then enough to run applications on the internet and downloaded applications smoothly, and it has all of those bells and whistles that I need for it to push it over the top for me. I will be buying a WePad when it comes out.

I’ll probably paint over the name though…

Others will contain adware that will keep pestering you with annoying pop ups urging you to buy all sorts of things.
