I have a good news for Milestone owners and bad news for Droid owners. Motorola finally launched the 2.1 update for the Motorola Milestone and for now, it’s only available for users in Hong Kong and Macau.

As you guys know that the difference between the Motorola Droid and the Motorola Milestone is that Droid is CDMA while Milestone is GSM. Overall the specs are same.

The folks in Europe will receive the update before the end of March. No information on when the 2.1 update will hit Canada, but I think it’s in the list. May be after Europe. The 2.1 update comes with following features:

  • Dutch language support
  • Live wallpapers
  • 5 home screens with indicator
  • Motorola Car Home
  • Speed Improvements

I know how you Droid owners are feeling now, but patience is required. I hope it will hit US soon.

If you get the update, let us know how it goes and if there is anything else we may have missed.

Since my update last night to firmware android 2.1 it seems that motorola are true to their words about their flagship smartphone, and i’m glad to see a noticeable quicker response of the the new version. Also there are lots of additional programs included aside from original functions that has been tweaked to make it more intuitive in favor of users.

To make it short…. Motorola Milestone is a WAY TO GO for the year 2010 smartphone !!!

We’ve got two in the house…. an unlocked one on Rogers and one from Telus.

For the unlocked phone on Rogers, I tapped the system update option and it updated to 2.1 this morning. The status screen looked like it was connecting directly to Motorola.

The Telus Milestone, however, is still on 2.0.1 and the system update reports that it is ‘up to date”.

      @Bill

Did you say that you have an unlocked Milestone on Rogers that updated itself to 2.1??? I’ve never heard of this happening. As far as I know there is no 2.1 North American update for any Milestone.

Was this originally a Telus Milestone that was unlocked? I’d love to have some more specific info on the updated ROM if this is the case! Thanks man! :-)

Not a Telus one. It came from the one northerly tourist destination, Pacific Mall, a seemingly a high tech pirate’s cove in the north east end of the city where phone unlocking and digital pirate booty and knockoffs can be had cheaply…. accompanied by occasional raids by the police on the stores.

The phone didn’t update itself. I tapped the system update icon, it went out and found the update, downloaded and installed.

The phone came with what looks like a Type G wall plug and an adapter for North America. According to wikipedia, Hong Kong uses Type G and I’d probably bet that this is a Hong Kong Milestone and sold in Toronto.

Sorry folks, I forgot to mention that Rogers and Telus are Canadian. Telus being the only carrier to carry the Milestone as part of their offering.

The unlocked Milestone was purchased at Pacific Mall in Toronto, Ontario.
