XDA user and developer paulobrien (also from Modaco)  has offered some good news this morning.

He has successfully gotten the HTC Desire camera to work on non-HTC builds.

Many users have been asking for this as well as other Sense applications to be available or ported over to other builds, and like early versions of the Hero ROM’s, much of the Sense UI is dependent on the framework to function properly.

For more information and to read up on the process check out XDA.
