Android Market comes to the Mac desktop with DoubleTwist

DoubleTwist’s latest update adds to its media syncing functionality for non-Apple devices like Google’s Android.  The application now enables downloading of Google’s Android Market Apps from the desktop — very similar to the way that Desktop iTunes works for iPhones, iPads and iPod touch devices.

Some caveats obviously apply.  Music downloaded from Apple’s iTunes Store won’t sync to your Android phone.  MP3s like those downloaded from Amazon work fine. Speaking of that, DoubleTwist allows you to buy Amazon music and videos directly from within the app (and is probably a good affiliate revenue stream for the company).

DoubleTwist also has a fantastic PodCast search feature which gives you desktop access to all of the best Podcasts.  They’ve even made a Web version of their Podcast Directory.

The big update in the latest version of doubleTwist, however, is the ability to browse the Android App Store and, if you see something you like, just snap a photo of the barcode from your screen and it will be downloaded by your Android phone. DoubleTwist says an over-the-air buying experience is in the works.

Google already has a Web version of the Android Market but it is pretty paulty on features, the biggest of which is that it doesn’t allow you to actually buy or download an app.  Just window shop.

So, if you are a Android user on the Mac Platform, you’ll probably want to check this out.  Windows users should get the Android features in an upcoming doubleTwist for Windows update.
