Damageless over at XDA has release an RUU file of the latest and possibly final build of the Android 2.1 update for the HTC Hero Sprint Android phone.

Here is a link to the latest RUU from Sprint.

You cannot simply extract it. This still has root since it is a test release. I recommend just doing an adb pull of your system directory after you flash it. Don’t do this when the final one comes out or else you might be stuck without root.

You will need to add busybox, patch sh and su, and make sure that you do another recovery image and such. I also recommend adding Superuser.apk and stuff. If you use the Desire build.prop, you can get most of the protected apps working.

Enjoy.

Leak, I know who you are.

This should make all you CDMA Hero user very excited.  I’m sure one of the developers will quickly turn this into a ROM that you can all flash to your phones.

If you see any ROMs released from the this leak, please let us know.

    That’s what the article says…

possibly final build of the Android 2.1 update

This probably isn’t the final release, but it is probably pretty close, as they were supposed to release it yesterday. I almost wonder if this was leaked on purpose to see what users think and to tied us over for the real release.

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone who knows how to do this could possibly post a video and reply me a link to it

I don’t believe that this is the final release. I have installed this to my phone and there are a few major bugs left to be worked out. As for the install, make sure your phone has more than 30% charge on the battery. The install will not begin otherwise. Plug in usb, run program, hit next 3 times or so and go to the store for about 20 minutes. There is no super freaky rooting/hacking/what-not-ing necessary. This is likely the same form the real update will take. It is an .exe that straightforward. Even your sprint credentials are loaded into the new droid. A note though: It seems mostly stable, but there are a few wrinkles to be ironed out.

I installed this image in my unrooted Sprint Hero and works great

This is not the final release and certainly was NOT just released on 4/10. I have been running DamageControl and Fresh ROMs made from this base since about 4/1. I’m not sure where this information came from but it is WRONG.
