Android Market Passes 50,000 Applications

The point of success behind every OS is it’s USer Interface and the applications available for it.  We know that Android has an amazing interface and it’s lias of application is growing on a daily basis. According to Androlib, the Android Market has crossed the 50k application mark and was listed as having 50,031 at the time of this post.

It should be noted that this number of applications is the total across all markets so no single market will see this number of applications.

This seems amazing as only 10 days ago, the Android Market cross the 38,000 apps mark. With this rapid increase in the number of applications with in such a short time period, it will only a matter of time before the Android market will cross 100,000 application mark.

Is gaining closer and closer to Apple App store which is currently at 189,816 applications. I think that the day is not far away when Android will beat Apple.

Way to go Android!

38000 different apps is the number issued by Google. Androlib carries more, cause it counts each theme for a keyboard or an application as App the way Apple Market does. So here you are comparing Apples to Apples lol.

The Amazing point is that 60% of 50k apps are free.. thats.. 30k Applications. Meanwhile in the AppleMarket with 180K apps… only 25% are free… so roughly 40k apps If you consider that fact that only 10% of all iPhone apps have more than 1000 downloads.. that gives us 4000 useful free apps for the iPhone. On the other hand, based on Androlib statistics 46% of all Android Apps have been downloaded more than 1000 time.. so.. that means there are 13800 usefull apps for Android. (over 3 times as many as for Apple).

Or if you want the cut of for Adroid at 10000 downloads for a useful app.. we are talking about 23.7% of them so 7100, almost twice as many as the iPhone.

Alright, to make Apple fan boys happy, and make stats “look” equal.
9.7% of all Android apps have been downloaded over 50000 times. So that means there are 2910 free useful apps for Android, compared to 4000 iPhone Apps.

Considering the iPhone has been around for 2 more years than Android… which ever way you cut the mustard… Android has more to offer and more growth more options and definately more free USEFUL apps.

iPhone has 176K worthless bloat. Paying for some apps like Exhange, WIFI access point and such is worth the money. But paying for 176K of useless apps ..no way.

From a developer stand point of view, Android has more to offer as well as more users are downloading free Apps.

Android is more cost effective with better options and choices.. unless you want to move over to the iDicatorship environment of Apple, where one man dictates what you will do with your life. There are leaders and there are followers. I for one, will not let one person run my life.

Lol.. ok ..iKnow… 10% of 25% of 180k iPhone apps is really 4500. Used 4000 for comparison purposes.

Even so.. 13800 is still over 3 times as much.. 7100 is 1.5 times and 2910 to 4500 is still a dead heat.

But please, iPhone enthusiast, clarify how many times have the 10% of useful iPhone apps been downloaded… and provide a link. Mine is there.. with Androlib.

Google apps store is only 4 month younger then apple apps store so google didnt get as much as they did at first because of lack of promotion with other carrier at time. Until November when the cliq and droid made a inpack in usa. First the cliq came out in nov 2 during the world series and then the droid came out with their commericial in nov 6 until early january with verzion making a big impack on the market.

The App Store is a service for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad created by Apple Inc. which allows users to browse and download applications from the iTunes Store that were developed with the iPhone SDK and published through Apple. Depending on the application, they are available either for free, or at a cost. The applications can be downloaded directly to target device, or downloaded onto a computer via iTunes. While Apple has stated that they do not expect to profit from the store, it has been predicted by Piper Jaffray that the App Store could create a profitable marketplace with revenue exceeding US$1 billion annually for the company. Apple allows 70% of revenues from the store to instantly go to the seller of the app, and 30% go to Apple.[1] The App Store opened on July 10, 2008 via an update to iTunes. On July 11, the iPhone 3G was launched and came pre-loaded with iPhone OS 2.0 with App Store support; new iPhone OS 2.0 firmware for iPhone and iPod Touch was also made available via iTunes.[2] As of April 8, 2010, there are at least 185,000 third-party applications officially available on the App Store, with over 4 billion total downloads.[3]

After the success of Apple’s App Store, and the launch of similar services by its competitors, the term “app store” has been used to refer to any similar service for mobile devices.[4][5][6][7] However, Apple claims “App Store” as a trademark.[8]

The App Store is accessible from the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad via an iPhone OS application by the same name.
