On March 23, Sprint and HTC announced the HTC Evo 4G.
Summer is right around the corner and according to Sprint this device will be launching soon.
A member of PPCGeeks forums has posted a picture of the HTC EVO taken with his Touch Pro 2 in a Sprint store in central Flordia. The photo is a little blur, however you can still make out that this is indeed a HTC EVO, as well you can also see the phone being displayed as FREE.
Seriously? If it’s going to be free then I think this phone will break the Droid record, however I am not 100% locked that this phone will be free. Lets see what kind of tricks Sprint has up it’s sleeves.
Do you think Sprint will offer this phone free? Let us know what you think in the comment’s below.

I would have to guess this is a marketing ploy for the free EVO giveaway to its long time members they have on their website.
An extremely good point. Slim chances of this being an actual set price, even for new customers.

Not LIKELY to be free, but this IS the phone that Sprint is trying to save itself with, so maybe the plan is the killer. I say it’ll be between $100 and $200 for the device, and a 400 minute (and unlimited data and text) plan will be about $80/month–assuming it’s subsidized to pay the difference.

Doesn’t that plan already exist w/ unlimited mobile calling for $69.99
I believe so, but unless you pay about $700 upfront for the phone, they lose money on the hardware. They tack a “tax”, per se, to the plan (no features added) that pays monthly for the difference.

Free with a 4 yr contract?

I got to see the EVO up close at Networld/Interop in the Sprint booth. I was told it will be around $200 with the standard two year contract. It ran for 5 1/2 hours before needing a recharge. % hours of that was non-stop use, including access to the WiMax network in Vegas. The speed was nothing short of amazing for both network and screen/application access.
This is one killer device, and good enough that I would seriously consider paying the extra since my contract is not up yet.
