Well the team working on unrevoked has released there one click root, as I said before very similar to the cupcake method. Try it out and let me know how it works, I don’t have a EVO 4G or a CDMA (Sprint) Hero to test. As always, rooting your phone will void your warranty and there is a chance of bricking your phone if you aren’t careful. Proceed at your own risk.
Steps:
1. Head over to http://unrevoked.com/ on your phone
2. Click the picture of the mobile link and you will be redirected to http://unrevoked.com/m/
3. Tap the logo to download
4. Install the apk and click start

That’s great for Evo but it says that they will have to do that everytime they reboot. I’ll stick to my G1 running CM 5.0.8 test 1 thank you very much.

Make it useful for my nexus 1 Please…….

@edgardo
Why would you want this for your nexus? Google allows you to just use fastboot to unlock the bootloader. These guys had to find an exploit in the operating system to become root. It’s kind of a shame actually that more phones don’t ship the way the nexus does.
so held me to unlock the bootloader because MY PHONE IS UNLOCK AND THER NO TUTO FOR UNLOCK NEXUS AND FAST AS THAT APP .

Who owns a nexus one? Oh nevermind.
This method has been updated to a “re-root” on reboot method now so I suppose it’s considered persistant.
You don’t have to install it every time, however you cannot write to /system yet.

Worked like a charm. That was seriously TOO easy. I’m using SetCPU again! Now, lets see if I can’t get some better battery life out of this puppy… =)
The only issue I can see happening is the app reroots every reboot, but what if you’re using apps that need root and they run at boot also? Hmmmmm… Guess we’ll have to see…..
In any case, this is AWESOME!!!!! =D

Tried on a Spring Hero. Said Done! Still not SuperUser and now the phone thinks I’m in Africa and the time is off. Don’t know what else is messed up.
Anyone with a Hero on Sprint use it? How did it work for them.
I had a new Hero, a week ago, did the 2.1 upgrade then tried this.
Let me know, Thanks
not letting me do it either

Ran as instructed on my EVO, and then opened the terminal emulator to do my terrible business. But it still says, “permission denied” for almost every single command. Ideas?

I ran this and root seems to persist after reboot. I don’t have to run unrevoked every time to get root. Check with terminal emulator get hash prompt, root apps install and run still. Can’t use rm to remove bloatware with su, says /system is read only…do I really have root???

You have a limited root.
The filesystem is read only
But you can still run apps that require root
How do we fix this in order to get the root required to run free wi-fi tethering without paying any additional fees to sprint.

i did it on my evo, & after alot of reading, it work amazingly!!!! Now, I’m doing it to my HERO & when I tried to install the unrevoked apk., it says “unrevoked could not be installed on this phone.” I got stopped dead in my tracks & have no idea how to proceed. Yes, I clicked on the HERO link. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Awesome!
P.S. “there” should be “their”.
When i press start it simply says “AH FARGH COULD NOT CREATE THE GODAMN MARKER” What does this mean and how can i fix it in order to get the root?
