ROM: Cyanogen CyanogenMod-5 v5.0.8-test4 for T-Mobile G1/T-Mobile MT3G

31

Seems Cyanogen and team have dropped a new test build of CyanogenMOD 5.0.8-DS for the dream/sapphire devices. Cyanogen announced via twitter that this would be the last test build before a new stable release. These recent test releases have really improved upon 5.0.7-DS and I highly recommend them, especially now that it includes @anderwebs excellent ADW Launcher as a true launcher replacement. Be sure to check out the settings for that launcher, which can be found in Setting -> ADW Launcher, as this launcher replacement has almost EVERY option you can think off.  To top it off, they finally fixed the random “musical party in your pocket” bug!

Changelog

5.0.8-test3 – 5.0.8-test4:
—————————-
* Common: Fix the “party-in-your-pocket” magical music bug – Glenn Maynard
* Common: Update ADW Launcher to 0.7.8 (pinch to zoom) – Ander Webbs
* Common: Updated omni-tether patches and full BT DUN support – Stefan Tomanek
* Common: Move ADW settings into settings instead of home – Mehdi ABAAKOUK
* Common: Move Spare Parts option into Settings – Mehdi ABAAKOUK
* Common: Updated translations – Eug89
* Common: Fix BT control connection race condition – Glenn Maynard
* DS: Reenable LBDAF to fix ext mount problems
* N1/DS: Disable NORMALIZED_SLEEPER now that the media bugs are fixed
* N1/DS: Disable MTD_LAZYECCSTATS as it was causing many problems

I must say the ADW launcher has come a long way. I have be following up and testing its developments and Ander webbs has really been doing a great job. The Music app on 5.0.8 is also another killer app. I particularly like the widgets and the gestures they have incorporated (Big up Elliot Stocker). Cyanogen Builds are really the best Android ROMS and its good they keep breathing new life into the G1.

Could someone help me understand this…is this an update to 5.0.7 Stable or is this a whole different ROM. Is this is an update why does this say Test and the other Stable. If this is different there what is the difference between the two ROMs

  8. Test build are pretty much beta builds. 5.0.8 is an update to 5.0.7-DS, and this is the last “test” or beta build before the next stable release, which will be 5.0.8-DS (STABLE). Hope that helps! Enjoy

That’s mighty impressive! Updated straight over 5.0.7-DS, works very well.

i guess this will be the final for eclair
    next, froyo

Yes, CM5 will be the Eclair (just like CM4 is Donut) but I doubt they’ll completely drop support for both (maybe put CM4 in the back burner since it’s pretty much got everything a Donut ROM can ask for) but CM5 development will definitely continue for a while.

As far as FroYo goes, that will be CM6. Steve (Cyanogen) has already said that in his blog and I assume as soon as all the codes, drivers and some devices get released with FroYo, we’ll have a fully working CM6 (probably in a month or two). There’s also FroYo roms floating around but I’ll be waiting for Cyanogen since no matter what rom I try, I always go back to his roms – fast, rock solid, plain and simple and no ugly themes or modifications (leave those to the users, if one can root their phone and flash a custom rom, they can install a theme – that’s why I love that CM leaves his roms theme free for the most part)…
