Coming from the press event given by Motorola and Verizon in which they announced the new Droid X, Andy Rubin has some other information to add. “In May, we announced that there are 100,000 handsets every day. Today, that number is 160,000,” says Rubin. We learned that at this year’s Google I/O that number was at 100,000 devices were shipping daily and before that in February, the number was just 60,000. Android has come along way in these shorts months nearly tripling the February amount.

With the release of such devices as the HTC Evo, the HTC Droid Incredible, and HTC’s MyTouch 3G Slide this sales push would easily up the market as consumers are constantly grabbing these devices. The demand for the Droid Incredible and HTC Evo alone are showing a huge consumer request as these devices are currently “Out of Stock.” Keep in mind in the next few months, that number should spike with the release of the Droid X, Droid 2 and the Samsung Galaxy S as these devices will be rolling out shortly. Let’s just look at the numbers on July 22nd, a week after the confirmed launch date of the Droid X on July 15th.
