Droid X vs. HTC Evo vs. Google Nexus One In Benchmark Face-off!

by Alex Smith on 25th Jun 2010 -

We have seen the Droid X a lot today with the full specs , the complete hardware tear-down and how it runs games. Now let’s see the benchmark tests. Phil, over at Android Central, ran four different tests showing us what these top U.S. Android devices are capable of. We already know that the HTC Evo has a FPS restriction limiting the device to max out at 30 FPS. Here’s the video.

We can see that the Google Nexus One running the latest FRF83 build of Android 2.2 will fly! One of the main reasons is because of that JIT compiler that comes with Froyo. The HTC Evo has the 30 FPS restriction so we won’t hold it against it, it is still a powerful device hanging with the Droid X. The Droid X Is going to do everything we are expecting and more! With the HTC Evo and the Droid X not running Android 2.2, there is no denying that they will be the hottest Android devices of 2010.

Do you want to run these tests on your device? The benchmark apps in the video are:

  • Linpack
  • Quadrant Standard Edition
  • Gears for Android
  • NenaMark1

*These free applications are found inside the Android Market.

I first discovered Android when I purchased my G1 and then once I rooted it I realized this was becoming an addiction. I later purchased the Nexus One and after rooting that device I finally realized I had a problem. What do you do when you have an addiction? you guessed it, don't be a quitter. Wouldn’t it make more sense to have put the nexus back to stock? Not much of a benchmark as you know the JIT will kick it up a few notches.

I couldn’t agree more with Matt. All this benchmark did was show how much more superior the Droid X is compared to the HTC Evo. If they were all on the same OS then it would have shown a better hardware benchmark. Then, they could have all be run at 2.0 (or 2.1) and then 2.2 to show the affect of the new Froyo release.

It was nice to see them lined up against each other but the comparisons are hardly standardized.

Are we sure the droid x doesnt have the JIT compiler? It seems to be performing abnormally fast for the 1ghz snapdragon on android 2.1.

The Droid X does not have a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It is running the TI OMAP3630 processor at 1GHz. It is a totally different architecture and has a superior GPU than the Adreno found in the Snapdragon SoC.
