This new firmware update, while not Android 2.1, will boost the overall performance of your X10, enhance the camera UI, install the new PlayNow which features premium apps and games (only in selected markets) ,and implement a new settings back up app. A statement from the Sony Ericsson Blog states:
“This update focuses on improving the general performance, speed and responsiveness of Xperia X10. For example, there are speed improvements in messaging tasks and camera UI. In addition we add a free back up and restore application so you’ll never lose your settings and information. In selected markets, PlayNow™ with premium apps and games will also be added.”
This update starts today and will carry on through the coming weeks. Do not give up on the Android 2.1 update just yet, as it is expected to come later this Quarter.

Thanks for the info. Updated with no problems, but chose the ‘restore phone to defaults and then update’, as I had quite a few (too many) apps and I wanted to get the ‘new’ feel for the X10 again.
Typing on the touchscreen seems to have improved, meaning I won’t now have to install 2 other apps I used for this, which is nice. Also (maybe its just me) but in the previous firmware, one always had to press the letter ‘L’ a few times before it worked, which means to me the accuracy and sensitivity of the touchscreen improved.
The themes for Timescape is an improvement, but I can’t help but feel they could have done more in that department. I’d have liked a totally black theme, since battery consumption is my biggest problem, even after loading custom (and energy saving) home screen replacements. Had a small problem installing my IMAP email client. Will try it again when I get a spare moment.
