It seems Androlib was a bit ahead of themselves, but hey, we all wish the market was nearing triple digits. Rather than the 90,000+ figure they were toting, the number is closer to 70,000, according to Jonathan Rosenberg, Google Senior VP of Product Management.
Not much else was said about Android during the quarterly report as the call focused mainly on the company as a whole; which incidentally is doing very well:
Google had a strong second quarter,” said Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google. “Solid growth in our core business and very strong growth in our emerging businesses drove 24% revenue growth year over year. We saw strength in every major product area, as more and more traditional brand advertisers embraced search advertising and as large advertisers increasingly ran integrated campaigns across search, display, and mobile. We feel confident about our future, and plan to continue to invest aggressively in our core areas of strategic focus.
So, unless an army of developers suddenly joins the market, don’t expect to see the magical 100 anytime soon, though it’s still reasonable to think we may see that number toward the end of the year.
