Motorola “Undecided” About Android 2.2 on Milestone

Motorola Milestone

Things are not looking good for the Motorola Milestone as Motorola is “undecided” on whether or not to update the Milestone’s firmware to Android 2.2. On the Motorola forum, James King, the marketing director for the European region, stated that all things must be considered before upgrading firmware and that Motorola has yet to decide whether or not they’ll bring Froyo to the handset.

“Next European Milestone and 2.2 (Froyo). I have expressed over the last few days that the decision is pending. The team here has been collating key pieces of information and views from this community in the last month and providing input to relevant teams in Motorola so they are aware. I am pushing for that decision to be made as quickly as possible, and we can then all go from there. Some others ask why the decisions on upgrades take so long, and why does implementation then take much longer still. What I can say and have stated recently is that upgrades are not a walk in the park.

Sure there are short cuts that people can take, but when you have to integrate software to a specific hardware, then test it and integrate with third party applications, let alone any innovation from ourselves, plus then get approvals to make this all official and safe… its is a big undertaking that requires planning and resource and third party coordination to see this all through. As I say, once we have decision, we will inform.” JK

It’s looking like you will receive the update, but not as soon we thought. As soon as someone can crack that bootloader many of you could be enjoying Froyo a lot sooner.

Ok. That’s it. I want my money back! Fuck those idiots!
They advertised it as flash ready and now what? they are bitching around updating to froyo?
And thanks to the locked bootloader I can’t even upgrade it to 2.2 myself!!!!
That is misleading advertising par excellence! I will write them and I hope many people will join me!

I love my milestone, and don’t really care about the locked bootloader, but totally agree with florian, they advertised the device as flash ready – and if froyo is what it takes for flash, then as far as I see it, they have no option.
‘Still making a decision’ is not good enough – advertising promised it, the community wants it – I am increasingly getting fed up with motorola, my wife’s dext was promised 2.1 upgrade and still no news there either.

Just a smidgen of commitment to their users ‘we’re working on it’ wouldn’t go amis!

It’s there whole market plan why update it when they are releasing a new handset come people why do you think they have a bootloader lock so people can’t hack it and make there own update. do you think people will still be using a g1 or mytouch if they couldn’t update it people would just jump ship to the next one that is there whole plan and next year when android 3.0 and android x.x come out they wont update and make you go out and buy a new one

ok, when one or two people can port froyo to a freakin G1 by themselves, how hard could it be for motorola to do it, or at least pay steve kondik to do it?

I hate managers for a reason.
“Hey, I’ve an idea! Let’s push the sales of DroidX by dropping support for Milestone! I bet EVERYONE is going to buy a new DroidX or Droid2 then!”
Stupid idiots. If they drop the support, I will return my Milestone. Basically you can sue Motorola at the European Union Court for Misleading Advertising and trying to gain market shares due to wrong information.
Or they will delay the Froyo update until 2011, so it won’t “harm” the sales of their new mobile phones.
Either way, I am so pissed right now. My HTC Magic is already running Froyo…
    WTF?
At least they could free the bootloader when they drop support. But I guess they won’t as they want to keep the product life-cycle short.

This is the exact reason why I just purchased two Samsung Vibrants for my wife and I. My last Moto purchase was the Cliq which has yet to receive the 2.1 update. The frustrating thing is Moto has said the Cliq will receive the update but they have been saying that since Jan 2010 and they keep pushing the release date back. And now they want to encrypt the boot loader to make it diffult for developers to develop custom ROMS? I see where they are going. Hell no I won’t be forced into another hardware purchase just to receive an update.

I’m done with Moto and my last two purchases is the way I will communicate my frustration with them.

That’s BS… I only bought a Milestone because I thought I’d try Motorola out (along with overclocking) after 10 years… bad mistake. Not buying another Motorola until they fix their practices :(

LOL for the people who “do not care about Moto’s locked bootloaders.”

I guess they expect you to rush and buy the Droid X now, which then will not be upgraded to OS3, so you have to buy Droid XX….

Why people buy phones like this is beyond me. But as long as there are enough of these people, companies will continue to do this.
