Keep Loved Ones Close with Neer

Meet Neer. Similar to Google Latitude, it tells you when contacts are near you, but don’t mistake the two; Neer is not a Latitude copycat. First, Neer restricts your social group to just the people closest to you, then it restricts location awareness to just the places you choose.

Neer is for those times when you’ve wanted to know…

  • “Has my spouse left work yet?”
  • “Who’s around for lunch?”
  • “Is now a good time to call?”

With Neer… now you know

Neer allows you to privately and automatically share your location with the people you care about. Not everywhere you go, just the places that really matter.

Wrapped up in a pretty nice looking UI, Neer is an interesting idea to be sure. Neer is starting with Android with plans to expand to iPhones and PCs. Neer is so new they don’t even have a demo video up yet, but you can still download their app from Android Market, you guys know the drill by now.

Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll have to check this out. Seems like this might fit better than Latitude with the way people want to actually use location services.

  13. hi jolie,

thanks for the nice review, i think this is the first one. i lead the team developing Neer inside Qualcomm.

to answer a couple questions that popped up:
    - Neer is released in USA and Canada only right now and you will only see it in the market if you are in one of those countries. we’ll release in more countries… just working out any kinks.
    - Neer will run on Android 2.0 and up.
    - we will be getting up a lot more info on Neer soon (including a nice video!)
