Breaking: Download 2.2 for Evo From HTC!

Attention all of you with HTC Evos. Android 2.2, aka Froyo, is available now as a direct download from HTC! If you want to put some frosty dessert on your device, click HERE or HERE for the download. Once you’ve got the file, just follow these steps:

  1. Place in the root of your SD card
  2. Boot into recovery mode
  3. Select “apply update.zip” or “install from .zip”
  4. Enjoy your Froyo!

If you need a refresher on how to manually flash the update, you can read our guide written for the EVO HERE. In any event that you’ve forgotten what you’re getting, Sprint has added the release notes to their site:

This update offers:
- Ability to share applications
- Display events and birthdays from Facebook on Calendar
- Use camera LED as flashlight
- New user interface for the FM radio
- Add unknown users in Facebook as friends in Friend Stream
- Photo Gallery supports Facebook comments function
- Send contact as vCard using SMS
- Addition of MMS slideshow editor
- New pre-loaded widgets including Calculator, FM radio, Message list view, Profile settings and Ringtone settings
- Camcorder can use camera flash so video can be shot at night or in low light
- Flash 10.1 support
- Numeric PIN and alpha-numeric passwords to unlock screen
- Search widget and search bar able to switch to search in different types (web, specific application, or all)
- Adjustable alarm volume
- Android Market widget allows installation of applications on SD card

    I have root and NAND unlocked on my Evo… Wonder if I can still flash successfully…? Here goes EVERYTHING! =D

    It gets it before droid even though Droid was supposedly ‘preferred’ because it was stock Android.

      I don’t have an Evo, so I can’t try it, but the “Click HERE to download the update” link points to liveimage.htc.com, so it is direct from the manufacturer. Unless HTC screwed up, which I doubt, no bricking here.

      it worked fine for me and everything but the camera is working. all and all though it is pretty slick can’t wait for the final build

    RT @htc Please be aware any update.zip floating around for EVO are not final and may cause problems. Official updates are coming OTA next week!

    Just updated my evo, it worked perfectly…took a while for it to reboot up after the update, but now, I have successfully updated my evo…. YES!

    hey assclowns, this isn’t the official 2.2 update and has since been pulled by htc. it will not be released until august 3rd as sprint said.

    I installed Foryo but I do not see the new 3D photo Gallery. How do I get this update. Do I have to reinstall it. Can anyone guide me how to revert back to 2.1.
