With tablet-talk on the rise, there are rumors circulating this morning about a Google tablet in the works running Chrome OS that will be manufactured by HTC. The very first Android device was introduced to us by HTC and earlier this year the Taiwanese handset maker brought us the Google Nexus One. According to Download Squad, Google is planning to rival Apple’s iPad with their own tablet that will launch on Verizon November 26th.

What will this device be running under the hood you ask? According to Download Squad, this tablet is likely to run:

  • Based on the NVidia’s Tegra 2 platform
  • 1280×720 multitouch display
  • 2GB of RAM
  • Minimum 32GB SSD
  • WiFi
  • Bluetooth
  • 3G connectivity
  • GPS
  • Webcam
  • Possible expandable storage via a multi-card reader

Is your mouth watering yet? Keep in mind, this is all one big rumor. November 26th is slowly but surely making its way here and as the wait time draws to an end, we’ll learn more about this device or similar devices that are currently in the works.

Did anyone else just revoke their child’s college fund for this tablet?

I hope this launches on T-Mobile. It seems that Google launches all their developer phones on T-Mobile, so why not the first tablet?

You do have a point, but as of right now the rumors point towards Verizon. :(

I myself have tmobile, so i would love it if it would launch for us, we have faster speed!

Great – cloud based OS = fail in my book, I dont love Google that much

I’d buy the wifi version and just use my EVO to tether. I don’t need no stinkin’ additional Verizon contract when I have Sprint.

And made by HTC? Oh my, that perked my ears up. Besides guys, Sprint’s buying Tmobile, haven’t you heard? We’re practically related now.

They are not buying T-Mobile, it is a possibility they are merging with t-mobile to get their hands on the lte technology. And depending on the success t-mobile has been having, it won’t happen for a while due to sprint’s merger track record which isn’t so great

Besides, if this is running Chrome OS, does this mean this always has to be connected to the interwebs? If so, I wish there were an Android option. The “always connected” to the internet is a con, as far as I’m concerned. Would seem to be a big drain on the battery (and my EVO) when I’m not around free WiFi.

Why would it have to be sold by a wireless provider? It’s WiFi (though it supports 3G). You would not need a contract to use it. The only advantage would be that the wireless provider would subsidize the price… But then again, they will smack you with an extra $30/mo for data…

If it does have to be purchased with a contract, I would hope that you would be able to choose. Perhaps it would take a sim card, usable with Tmo, Att, Sprint or Verizon (their world phones use sim cards).

I would hate it if it was just Verizon… The most expensive provider around.

They have to remember that people are on contracts… You can’t just change from provider to provider every couple of months. Even Apple’s maxi-pad could be purchased contract free.

the tablets will be uner the same category as the netbooks at verizon. you can buy one with a contract, or you can buy one outright and pay the full retail price for it. it’s not vzw branding or any sofware, just offering more solutions computer wise. there are plenty of people who bought the apple ipad, and use a vzw aircard on it. the tablet would be no different such as the kindle.

    • wtfphone

also…verizon…sprint..and att have the same data card plans, all $60 with a 5gb cap…so most expensive? depends on the plan

same here, if they would release a wifi version, then that would be my first choice.

I hope those who read this don’t take it the wrong way. I love GOOGLE with all my heart and all that it has done with Android and the community, but feel a bit disappointed with how they have been trying to sell their hardware.

The Nexus One is a great piece of hardware, and if made available to ALL Carriers with a subsidy, at the time, I would have purchased one. I decided to pass since I did not have $529 as well. Now they do not offer it at all to the public for purchase.

I know they are rumors right now but to be unleash such a device in a CONTRACT? would contradict what Google really is all about (IMO). I truly feel that Android could possibly have an additional 15-20% of the market right now if Google would have done things differently when trying to sell their hardware, but then again, maybe not.

Hopefully Google will sell this device to ALL carriers, not just one, lets just see what happens :)
