Motorola’s Software Upgrade List Gets an Update

5

Motorola has updated their Android software list and it looks like there are some who might be a little upset. One of the advantages of purchasing a high-end device is that the device will always see the next firmware upgrade. High-end devices run much better specs than the entry-level devices and the manufacturer and carrier simply don’t want to waste their time showing some update love to these devices, which we’ve seen Samsung and T-Mobile do to the Samsung Behold II. Below is the updated list of devices that will be seeing Android 2.1 or Android 2.2.

  • Motorola BackFlip
    • Upgrade to Android 2.1 planned for Q3
  • Motorola CLIQ
    • Upgrade to Android 2.1 – testing in process, planned for late Q3/early Q4
  • Motorola CLIQ XT
    • Upgrade to Android 2.1 – testing in process, planned for late Q3/early Q4
  • Motorola Devour
    • Will not have a software upgrade to Android 2.1
  • Motorola Droid
    • Upgrade to Android 2.2 currently rolling out in phases
  • Motorola Droid X
    • Upgrade to Android 2.2 planned for late summer.

For those of you who currently have the Motorola Devour, I regret to inform you that you will not be seeing Android 2.1 Éclair, I recommend that you upgrade your device to the Motorola Droid 2 or Motorola Droid X if you would like the very latest in firmware upgrades. BackFlip and CLIQ/XT owners, the upgrade is coming you’ll just have to wait a little longer than expected.

How do you all feel about the updated list?

I once served in the USMC from 02'-08' I purchased the G1 in 2008 and then watched the Android OS turn the mobile world upside down. I then got the Nexus One followed by the Samsung Vibrant. I also have the HD2 running Shubcraft CM6. I've been following the Android community for a while now and couldn't be happier doing anything else. "Go Green, get -C}[\][D[R[-][][D-"

    What about the DEXT owners??
Dext ws promised the 2.1 update in a facebook blaze of glory earlier in the year, and the community hve screengrabs showing it. Why screengrabs? because motorola pulled the status from their page and have completely backtracked on it.

I’ve experienced thismotorola treatment from two sides now, my wife and her dext, and my own milestone and the ‘oooh will we, won’t we,’ attitude they have had about upgrading the LOCKED BOOTLOADER milestone to 2.2

Milstone – the phone without compromise supposedly!

I will give them their due, Motorola hardware is really nice, but their attitude to their customers stinks. They seem to be completely focussed on getting as many products to makret as possible (milestone, droid x, backflip, ip rated jordan phone, etc, etc) but then don’t giver a flying **** about their customers.

I’ve just binned my milestone and got a Galaxy S – ad I won’t be buying another Moto ever.
Seriously, if you’re considering one, just trawl the owners forums for a while, and then remember the DEXT.

I’m with you on that one. Was on the cliq, now samsung vibrant and Moto will never get my money again as I purchase new devices annually. The cliq has been my worst android device to date.
