Rumor: T-Mobile is About to Make a Big Comeback

80

We have heard from a very reliable source that T-Mobile has about 15 new phones they will be rolling out over the next two months. Half of them are said to be devices that will make the Vibrant, currently their flagship phone, look as though it is somewhere in the middle of the pack. UMA is headed to a few, and 2 of the phones are said to have processor speeds over 1GHZ. With the G2 scheduled to hit the shelves on October 6th, T-Mobile seems to be aligning themselves nicely for a big push in the fourth quarter, aka the big Christmas shopping season. They are definitely becoming a major force as one of the top 4 U.S. carriers with an increasing portfolio of high-end devices that have great hardware specs, along with competitive plans that offer the consumer a multitude of options. Thinking of jumping ship? T-Mo is looking more and more like a very attractive option!

Will your dream phone be among the 15?

This would be amazing if it’s true.
Fingers crossed for some serious new hardware.

wow. next generation??? what’s wrong with the g2’s second generation chipset? or the fact that dual cpu’s on a phone is dumb. you guys plan on doing cad design or something highly cpu intensive. look at most of the phones now adays they throttle them selves down to like 500mhz? what the hell you gonna do with 2 of them? u gonna wear a battery pack around your waste to keep them going? i think everyone just needs to relax and understand the G2 is 2nd generation technology minus the 2nd cpu… 2nd gen gpu, newer cpu intructions which is really where the speed comes from. more calculations more efficent per clock cycle is clutch. my ranting is over! plus i’m in an hspa+ friggin state for crying out loud lol….

      • AndroidForeverForTheWin

You’re one of those people like that were mentioned above, you need your phone to make calls and look pretty. You have no idea why the big push for hardware is even being discussed. The android operating system cannot continue in the direction they want it to go with today’s current hardware. Would you buy a computer you knew for a fact would NEVER be able to run a newer copy of windows? Or be able to load it up with flashy, exciting apps and content? Hardware = Software advancement, new updates, and the list goes on. We are in a dual core transition era because the software needs it to grow at the rate it has been for so long. If you had read the articles from a few months back, HTC was interviewed and stated that the rapid growth of android and updates to software would slow down when hardware reached its limit. That time is now so the big push for the first time is more pointed towards system specs, the better the hardware, the more you can get out of what you paid for it…. period.

Been on the T Mobile train for 6 years now. They better do something to keep me. I hope this is true

O_o I hope this is true as well. T-Mobile has been slacking

Haven’t even gotten my G2 and I’m thinking about selling it :(

    • Settlepoeton

Just got mine THIS MORNING and I’m thinking about selling it! lol. T Mobile has so many great products coming down the pipeline, the G2 is great it really is, but it isn’t all, ya know? Better things are coming, and so soon? I JUST put mine up for sale on Craigslist now, I can make it work with the trusty G1 for another 8 weeks

      • j-dags

boy, I’m sure glad you aren’t my kid. you’d never be happy! of course there are always better phones coming down the pipe. that’s what phone companies do!!! how could you buy the phone and then think about selling it right after getting it?! didn’t you research what you wanted?!

        • OMGGoGoogleitforcryingoutloud

Obviously the people who think just like you j-dags haven’t done a damn bit of research or you would have shut up and not made comments like yours. The reason people are returning them is because just here recently after we all pre-ordered it was made light that the next generation of hardware was coming in such a short time that made our upgrades NOT worth the money or extension of contracts. The G2 was a failure of a remake and another example of Tmobile shenanigans.

        • Settlepoeton

Yes I researched it thoroughly, a little too thoroughly, I never stopped checking up for updates on it. Thing is though, it’s not a matter of the phones coming down the pipeline being nicer, but instead that the G2 just wasn’t “that” big of an upgrade to me. I have a G1, rooted to 2.2, and I expected the G2 to be a bit more than it was in terms of excitement, wow factor. Great phone, but wasn’t quite the “upgrade” I feel was worth $500. So I’ll sell it(which I’m sure it will sell instantly), and save that money for a newer phone that isn’t quite so modest an upgrade as the G2 is. That’s all you know?! Just didn’t excite me as much once I actually got it. I honestly think that just the idea of finally having the official successor to the G1 was such an exciting development for so many people, that our hopes were too high. I wouldn’t be surprised if more people said the same thing once they actually get their eagerly awaited G2’s in their hands. Once that initial astonishment of that first hour wears off…all you essentially have is a G1 that looks cosmetically different and has RIDICULOUSLY FAST internet speeds(granted). It’s not all that different,at least not to me.But the internet speed, again, is GREAT,can’t emphasize that too much. I’m in Chicago, so HSPA is in full swing here

Anywho, phone is nice. But not the “game changer” that I think so many are expecting it to be, ya know?

Again, for all onlookers, I OWN THE G2, received via ups on 9/29. :)

  • Elementality2012

Figures they would gimp the g2 and make it crap then blow it out of the water with “real” phones. Starting to hate Tmobile. If none of these flagships have qwerty ill slap the shit out of the next tmo rep I see.

    • Draconis2941

How did they “gimp” the G2? And if you point to the 800Mhz processor you’re an uninformed moron

      • MaybeSomedayforyew

All of your replies just prove how stupid the average consumer really is. You have no idea what the specs, hardware, or what any of the heavy users will require or want. You have no idea, you really do not. And as for the stupid reply about youtube jesus dude it was probably an exaggeration. I highly doubt the person mean it literally.

    • JKache

I want you to come to the store i work at and slap me please. We’ll see how your face will end up. I will personally get the video off the sec cams and will post on YOUTUBE to show what happens when a dumbass slaps a tmo rep. Talk is cheap douche!

    • AndroidEyez

Hold on that phone is the new Nexus One it will have more custom ROM’s then any other phone out there, also the 800MHz will run faster then a 1Gig anyday plus it will have allot longer battery life some people are just HATERS and no matter what you will never please them like you. And these new phones will shut all you unloyal customers.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=507041011 James McPartland

It’s about time! Let’s hope they come combo of specs in a phone!! This is the main reason I didn’t get the G2

  • Tracy G

How about more work on your network, T-mobile?

    • Anonymous

it’s worked so far for AT&T…

    • Iphonepuhleeze

Agreed, what is the point of 4G standing on one leg in the right direction at sunset, when you can’t even get 3G as it is? Their coverage in general should be improved not their GD speeds. Has the world gone mad?

  • http://twitter.com/carlrice Carl Rice

Great news but the best phone is useless without service, like my new hood, so I had to drop them for Verizon. Literally double the bill but at least I get service.

  • Alankrut

It would be nice if we got something that can match with the Evo, or even better the Desire HD

    • Abcdavidefg

the vibrant is better than those two

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jamille-Browne/1184321457 Jamille Browne

    • j-dags

the evo is a piece of junk! you are kidding, right? it totally flops on all the benchmark tests.

I agree. I’m happy with my vibrant and don’t want to go back to a normal screen. when a new super amolded screen comes out thats a phone I’ll look at. Faster processor and all that doesn’t natter to me my phone is blazing right now.

  • Oodyjones

The G2 is pretty nice. i got to play with it at my job. I work at the T-mobile warehouse in LaGrange, Georgia (probably where your phone goes to after you send it in for malfunctions), and this lady had to test the G2 and write an over view on it. she let me play with it. it’s really fast. it’s kinda heavy, but it’s sexy….and I LOVE the way it feels when you flip open the keyboard. I’ve been waiting 2 years for something to replace my G1, and finally it’s here

  • Anonymous

The mytouchHD seemed pretty cool, with a flash and front facing camera like most people cry for…if it has the power of the vibrant it would be a good choice. But i agree with most people on this page, the Galaxy S is a great phone, with A LOT of power. whatever would be coming out that is “better” than that must be pretty crazy…it would have to have 1.2ghz at least, and about the same 16gb storage and an amazing screen. maybe they will surprise us with some gingerbread….

    • TmobileForevah

MytouchHD looks fine for cheap plastic with NO QWERTY… other than that it’s a fine piece of hardware.

    “damn… its about time.” hehe

  • TheColdHardTRUTH8011

Played with my room-mates G2 all day today. He upgraded from the G1 like I was thinking about doing until today. They have waited long enough to have less than sub-par hardware as far as T-mobile goes. About time they made something that doesn’t make you yawn and die a little inside… Although, if they make any new phone like the G2 I’ll be extremely disappointed. The G2 could have been way better, and you people who have your heads in the sands think I’m only talking about the 800mhz speed of the cpu, and that is the least concern I have with the G2. The list would take up too much space to explain why T-mobile needs to reel themselves in and wake the hell up. Perhaps the time is FINALLY now for them to realize this. There was NO need for 4G when 3G had HORRIBLE coverage as it stands, and 4G will have even WORSE than 3G coverage, no matter what you think or have heard them say, I’ve tested the 4G and 3G in many areas and I can tell you their strategy was a dumb idea. Instead of what they decided to do, they SHOULD have focused on more, or better coverage of their 3G and BETTER phones…. PERIOD, those of you that think what I just said is wrong need a reality check. Examine the situation with other more successful network carriers and actually try with your little brains to understand WHY they are so much more popular.

    • LoLCody12

I agree completely. The 800mhz is not the gripe the intellectual actually have. Just so you know those of you who ordered the G2 will be complaining come 3 or so months from now. Hopefully you will be or else all of those who understand exactly what is going on will be complaining just about the same things they are now that T-mobile is months behind the competition in hardware.

      • Bendster

So…you’re calling yourself an intellectual? Yeah, right…
If you actually had any complaints other than the clock speed you’d post them…but since you didn’t post any it means you don’t actually have any.
        Some intellectual…

        • LadyGaga2002

I think he means that there is too much to list that was wrong with the phone, and it wouldn’t be a lie. Have had one the whole day myself… will be taking it back right before the 14 day return policy date. This will leave another bad taste in my mouth like the mytouch slide /sigh. At the very least Cody may be lazy but not stupid bendster, there are indeed a ton of problems and let downs with the G2 as MOST ALL hardware that T-mobile makes now-adays at least.

u turned around and did the same thing da other guy did. claim to have issues witht the phone but didn’t post them. so what is ur point. smh.

        • http://www.facebook.com/zedklind Kevin Michael Lind

no front camera, no hdmi, would prefer atleast a 4inch display, would prefer 45nm technology chip for low power consumption, higher capable speeds than 14.4mb/s when the spectrum allows for 21. 5row qwerty like the g1. tmobile is ridiculous.. im saving my upgrade from my g1 because i was highly disappointed in the g2.. htc also gave this phone to verizon… http://androidandme.com/2010/09/news/htc-desire-z-to-join-verizons-droid-lineup-this-holiday-season/. now stfu thaghost/bendster and do your own damn research. its called GOOGLE you IDIOT. search for yourself or buy the damn thing and be disappointed..

        • j-dags

so you are admitting that you bought a phone and didn’t know it has a 3.7 in screen, no front facing camera? that’s not very smart of you. why are you expecting something from the phone that it doesn’t have?! it never claimed to have those things, duh. the G2 rocks and beats all other phones in the benchmark tests. this stock android phone is going to be a favorite for a long time…

        • http://www.facebook.com/zedklind Kevin Michael Lind

for one i didnt purchase it. i didnt because it didnt have those things. i didnt say it wasnt going to be a favorite… its just not the best and tmobile isnt doing a remake justice

        • Gingerbread

your as stupid as you look. The G2 isn’t a remake, idiot. it would be called the G1 again if it was. XD retard. also, The G series is about Raw android (aka vanilla) to you wannabe android nubs out there. us original Android users don’t give a shit about all that Fad, no one even uses unnecessary bullshit. The G1 was cut n dry. The G2 should be too. so stfu and go buy an iPhone. XD #TeamAndroid

        • http://www.facebook.com/zedklind Kevin Michael Lind

u mad bro? im talking about my 2year contract that i have to extend… the g2 isnt worth it imo when a couple dual cores are supposed to be out within the next 2-3months. pardon my use of “remake” in the wrong context but anyone that read that would understand what i meant unlike some grammar nazis that jerk off to trolling forums

        • YouloseIwynee

I agree completely, there is no need to mention what is wrong with the phone, if you don’t know what is wrong with it then you must be one of those idiots holding the rest of the world back who think like the following: “I need my phone to make calls and ‘work’.” Please learn to google or hell… even think. The same goes for freaking T-mobile, wake up and smell the calendar it is 2010 and technology is spreading like wildfire with everything on earth but batteries. Tmobile is still stuck in the 90’s mind set of cheap always wins.

        • IS300tt5speed

Don’t forget to mention that the phone has a micro usb instead of a normal sized usb port, in addition to it being on the left side like an abortion of a good idea. The on-board speaker sucks ass, 5.1 sound capable my ass it’s downright awful compared to any other device I’ve used. The keyboard has the worst layout imaginable. Out of the box the 4G was supposedly pretty fast in my area but my rooted G1 can load a highdef youtube video without lagging faster than this piece of crap did. The battery door is cheap and will scratch very quickly, it also has the stupid button to open it, another dumb idea. The hardware is even a lower end of the over-seas non-qwerty version and there should be no reason for it, I mean my god do plastic keys and a cheap hinge cost all of more than around 3 dollars? No FFC, the hardware doesn’t even make full use of T-mobiles “whoooooo” 4G since according to the specs 14.4mb down out of a 21mb down network capability. So put all of that in your pipe and smoke it.

      • Gingerbread

it’s funny when dumb asses think they’re smart. only “intellect” you idiots have is the common sense to use spell check to make sure u spelled intellectuality right. . XD and, Tmo started Android in America. . So STFU.

little brains? your just an idiot over thinking your boundaries. your “little brain” obviously doesn’t have the capacity to grasp Tmo’s goal as a whole, and all network coverage sucks, “period.” watch as Tmo grows n makes you realize you just wrote a pussies paragraph putting your foot in your mouth the entire time. . XD p.s. chances are your one of the idiots who “knew” the gay ass iPhone would top Android, realized it already has and switched teams. .wrong again, genius. XD get laid #TeamAndroid

where the hell do you live, in the middle of butt f@#$ egypt? I live just outside of houston and get HSPA+ anywhere from houston to galveston and EVERY small hick town in between. Such better coverage than Sprint or At&t. The onyl network that could compare w/ t-mo is maybe Verizon.

Iphone? If you get an Iphone you really shouldn’t be anywhere near this webpage unless you got it to purposely have a piece of @#%*….. and to be made fun of here for confessing the aforementioned act of stupidity..

Ok let me keep this short and sweet. The G2 quadrant score bone stock was 1800!! The neocore score was 54 fps!! I think that’s impressive without being rooted and I can’t think of another android device with those scores out of the box.

but it shows quadrant on the g2 at 1499

yea, that’s stock genius. the vibrant is around 800 running stock

        • http://www.facebook.com/zedklind Kevin Michael Lind

im not denying the fact that the g2 is a great phone i just dont think it will last long on top because of the dual core phones coming out within the next couple months. its not worth my 2month contract extension imo

The vibrant will be the best phone tmobile has for a long time…its already blazing fast out the box…but after u apply the lagfix the speed triples getting quadrant scores of 2000 plus…so imagine what the scores will be when it gets the froyo update wich makes android phones 250% fast..prolly scores close to 4000…

    VIBRANT ;-)

    • Techbeckk

Lag fix? I am getting the Vibrant in a couple days.

Jeez what do you people want? You act as if T-Mo didn’t dramatically improve on the Smartphone & Power phone end… I can remember the complaining 6 months ago, hell even a year ago! Now, today T-Mo has LEGITIMATELY stepped their game up far as SMARTPHONES is concerned. You guys bitch about more smartphones and what does T-Mo do? Give you more smartphones. Here’s the list of phones from the past 3-4 months (in no particular order) :- Nokia E73- BlackBerry Curve 3G- Motorola Charm- MyTouch Slide 3G- Samsung Vibrant (at least second best Galaxy S variant behind the Epic 4G) – G2Grant it, the list isn’t filled with “power phones” but nevertheless IT IS a list filled with NEW SMARTPHONES, in a span of 3 MONTHS. All I’m saying is, damn people… can T-Mo at least get a little love for the vast improvement? P.S For all the grief T-Mo gets for their smartphone selection why isn’t AT&T getting called out?! Seriously, checkout their roster of smartphones in the same 3 month span, it’s pretty pathetic!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Aaron-Elfstrom/100000590451868 Aaron Elfstrom

Plus T-Mob brought us the 1st Android phone the G1! What has at&t given us?? The iPhail 4 and a million dropped calls a day? Seriously…

  • Meireles Jpr

    T-Mobile doesn’t have a 4g network, it’s HSPA+.

  • JR

Please let at least ONE of these alleged 15 phones be an HTC Android with Sense! Why does Tmo have zero HTC phones with glorious Sense? After spending some time with my friends Incredible I no longer want any nonSense Android phones! = ).

      myTouch Slide. derp.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Aaron-Elfstrom/100000590451868 Aaron Elfstrom

yeah sense is cool, but if you really want sense you can root and load a sense ROM very easily. And you are wrong about no sense w/ t-Mob…MyTouch Slide bro (although i hate that phone, battery life sucks BAWLS)

    • jonzn4phones

the my touch slide runs htc sense and it’s awesome, but the phone has like noooo memory.

  • Raymondkw2003

Jeez, Trendaholic, if the Vibrant doesn’t qualify as a “power phone” then what does? Although this phone doesn’t quite match up in the specs department as a lot of other newly released handsets, I think it will fly for the simple fact that it is running unadulterated android on Froyo. A 4″ screen would have been nice as it makes using the touch functions that much easier. I agree that it should have had a FCC (which for some reason Samsung also decided to leave off of the US versions of the Galaxy S line), I mean, who makes these decisions? HTC is just as loony as Samsung. I really hope that they left it out because they knew any video chat would be extremely choppy. Otherwise it makes no sense.

  • mattthecat

my tmobile bill is also about $30 cheaper than all my att/verizon friends. THAT is what makes me happy :)
