  2. Make sure your Captivate’s USB cable is plugged into the computer but not the phone.
  3. Open the .exe file on your Windows PC

You dont have to root? Sorry if its a dumb question, but I dont want to brick my phone or void the warranty. If I didnt do it how long does everyone think until its released ota?

If you’re worried about bricking or warranty, then wait for the official software through official, supported channels. Fear is your master. Be tame…..and wait. ;-)

It appears you dont need root to flash this build. Checkout XDA’s thread for details on this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797282&page=11

No change to the file system? ie: do we still have to run the lagfix?

In the fear that this may turn out to be like the HTC Evo’s 2.2 update, I’ll wait for the OTA. :-)

How do the 2.1 and 2.2 benchmarks compare?

I know the software for the galaxy S series is pretty much the same across the board soo…… anybody think it would work for the epic 4G

    • rowanator says:

No way. First of all, the Captivate has a different version of TouchWhiz than all the other Galaxy S handsets, and second, a lot of the hardware is different (no flash, no front camera, no slider keyboard, different cell type, etc). Combining all those, and the fact that the installer software they use here probably wouldn’t detect your Epic as a Captivate, no way would this work.

Try the latest lag fix from Android Market, it helps alot.. plus allows for rooting. I use Titanium Backup to remove the bloatware.

Well, i purchased the captivate and being a geek couldnt stand the wait, not that froyo is such a huge leap, but it is a great refinement. That being said, i followed the instructions, and today i have froyo on my captivate. It is slightly faster then it was previously, and works exactly as advertised. I dont see why att would hold it back, even media hub works perfect. No camera issues, gps issues are cleared, and the phone feel is softer and faster…thanks! and bravo…cant wait for gingerbread…then chocolatte..lol
