So, the word has been going around that some T-Mobile G2 users have started receiving an OTA update that brings some anticipated features to the device. According to the XDA thread that first mentioned an OTA update, it looks like this update is bringing the following:
- Wi-Fi Calling application
- Hotspot capabilities via Wi-Fi and Usb tethering
- Allows G2 users to update the Google Goggles application
- New Radio
We have yet to see a direct download link for the OTA update, but it’s only a matter of time before someone stumbles across it. If you are running the G2 temp root, we advise you steer clear of the OTA update by not downloading it until they can figure things out. Below are a few more images of the G2 after the OTA update showing us a new radio and the tethering capabilities. Enjoy!

Have any of you received the OTA yet? Let us know in the comments below. We’ll be updating this post as more information develops.

What the freak man!?!? The Vibrant was supposed to be T-Mo’s answer to other carriers and they’ve all but ditched it. This phone is not even a month old and already getting updates. I freaking hate this fragmentation crap.
I’m with you Glen. Vibrant was supposed to get it in late Sept, then early Oct, then mid Oct, now late Oct…… Maybe this is to calm people down about the hinge issue. They’ll keep their crappy hinge because it’s the only t-phone with 2.2.

I read somewhere that the reason the Vibrant hasn’t gotten Froyo is because of contract reasons with T-Mobileand HTC. This is hearsay of course but makes the most sense. I believe once the G2 has been out a little while the Vibrant will update to froyo.
