I’m pretty sure the guys over at Team Whiskey never sleep as they have now announced “The Manhattan Project 1.6GHz RC0 – Team Whiskey”
They have successfully overclocked the Vibrant to a whopping 1600MHz with a goal of reaching 2000MHz. Here’s a little excerpt from their post over at XDA:
Project is simple in design and is a work in progress, overclock as far as we can go with ample supplied voltage for maximum stability. These are the screenshots taken last night from the last few builds of the evening, were up to something like 40 builds so far trying to get everything just the way we want it to run, look, and feel.
Currently we are overclocking both the GPU and CPU using both base frequency modifiers and multipliers. This is allowing us to directly push the GPU to its stable limit while adjusting out the CPU accordingly.
This is NOT a hoax or scam, these are real DDMS screenshots from the build currently in progress, as it has not yet been released we do not have code or kernels available until we know its running smoothly. The following zImage is a prerelease alpha. Its strictly for proof of concept. This kernel is mildly optimized and includes the CPU and GPU overclocks. In three of three test phones the CPU was stable, in two of three phones the GPU was stable. One test phone was not able to complete neocore under this coding.
Head over to their XDA thread for more information and a few more benchmark screen shots.

Playing with the “nuclear experiment” tonight, will report back. Team Whiskey must be playing w/ plutonium in their lab
After testing all night, i can say “The Manhattan Project” is working perfectly. Running at 1.6Ghz, no lagfixes, and everything is buttery smooth. Linpack averaging around 12.3 and Quadrant around ~1300, so a 61% improvement over stock. Not bad, and an great start for an alpha kernel. However, Please remember that this is an alpha, and not everyone will have success using it.
Can anyone please tell me how I can overclock using the stock rom and root?
I already have SETCPU
You need to flash an OC Kernel, like one of JACs or King’s. then run Setcpu autodetect.
acording to the post on xda, setcpu not needed…
Yeah but he asked just how to overclock in general, and you need an OC rom. i remember thinking when i first rooted my g1 that i could overclock to start but you need a compatible kernel. With this mod to 1.6ghz you dont need setcpu, it is set to 1.6/200 by default.
Their goal is to reach 1.21 gigawatts and go back to 1985.
been running this since it dropped last night on xda. battery life is awesome and with OCLF quadrant scores are almost 3300. i dont really care about OCLF but i’m too lazy to undo it at this point.
