And then there was root. The Galaxy S phones are familiar with root, but the Samsung Mesmerize, which was launched yesterday, got its first taste of root. The Samsung Mesmerize is the regional carrier’s Galaxy S device. The device was rooted using the rageagainstthecage exploit by C-skills.
The SuperOneClick root method has been confirmed as working flawlessly which makes your job a lot easier if venturing over into the rooted community. It’s always comforting knowing that your device can be rooted, unfortunately many of us T-Mobile G2 owners are re-thinking our recent purchase. Anyone nab the Mesmerize and rooted it already?

I rooted my mesmerize yesterday! Super easy. The only trick was that there was a USB driver issue that I needed USBDeview to resolve first. Once that was worked out, SuperOneClick worked like a champ.
I’m a total noob, so I don’t even know what “rooting” actually meant. I was hoping it would get me to a point where I could get rid of the U.S.Cellular splash screen when I start up the phone, etc., but I guess it only gets me to the point before that point. I loaded a terminal emulator to let me look at all the files on my phone with Linux commands, and I assume that will give me the ability to make backups, etc., while I wait for a suitable ROM.
Any knowledge on ROMs for the Galaxy S? Cyanogenmod?
