Who wants Froyo on their Vibrant? I DO, PICK ME!! I know it is a long and sometimes stressful task waiting on a carrier and manufacturer to get an update out to its consumers. It seems to be an even longer wait for T-Mobile customers. Example, the My Touch 3G, is just now getting Android 2.2.1 updates. A person’s only real hope of staying ahead of the curve is if they root. So this ROM quicklook is aimed at those of you that are already rooted or are considering it.
This ROM is put together by Eugene_373 with the help of Barak, xcaliburinhand and Jac. I have no doubt there are probably others involved as well. Please give these guys a huge thanks though for all their work.
Macnut R2 is based off the JPA Froyo that was released to Galaxy S in Europe. This is full Froyo port over. I don’t even know where to begin, the list of things included in this ROM is amazingly long. This current version out is heavily optimized for best battery consumption so far. The bloatware is removed. JIT is currently working pulling in about 14 MFLOPS. Lagfix is pre-installed with the ROM. Key mapping is correct. Headset jack is functioning properly. The latest GMail and YouTube apps plus Samsung APPS app. The JI2 modem baseband instead of the JI6 which really helps with battery life. The list just keeps going. It has been worked over quite a few times; I know that currently this build is on kernel #45. That gives you just a little bit of an idea of how far along they have come. I have already seen experimental kernel up into the 60′s, so expect more greatness soon. The guys have some of the other kernels available for you to try out if you wish. Including some Overclocked/Undervolted experimental versions as well as a some that have some more battery saving adjustments and voltage mods.
Personal experience: Fantastic! Switching between screens and applications is remarkably smooth and quick. The new Gmail application has changed how I use my 4 email accounts. My personal favorite experience with this particular ROM has to be battery life. I tried to take a photo for everyone but it came out a little blurry as you can see below. I have been running this ROM off the charger from 99% charge for 14 HOURS and 24 minutes and I still have 15% battery life left. To put that into perspective: I had about 3 hours of phone calls, 200 sms, 60 emails and a few hours of WiFi surfing and reading.

Now for the potential deal breaker for some of you. GPS is still not working yet due to no U.S. drivers for Froyo for the Vibrant. I know this is a cause for concern and a deal breaker for many. Fortunately for me it isn’t a large issue since 95% of all my travel is in town where I live and I know where I am going. Final potential conflict is loss of data connection when switching between Edge and 3G. This issue is solved by toggling airplane mode or the 2G/3G toggle that is included. As I live sadly in a 2G area only, I have not experienced this problem first hand.
As far as a recommendation. If you, like me, just don’t like to wait and you can live with out GPS (how much do you really use it?), then I highly recommend picking up this ROM and starting to enjoy your Vibrant even more. Take a look at some of these screen shots below.

Sounds great. Eugene’s Froyo ROM has come a long way since its first iteration.
Anyone tried this yet?
do I use odin to flash this like I flashed the ji6 update?
OMG can someone please get this up for the Epic
Correction…..the mytouch 3G is receiving froyo 2.2.1 not 2.1 and has usb tethering onboard!! A friend of mine installed the OTA a couple of weeks ago.
that would be a typo error on my part. I apologize. thank you for correcting me. Ill get that updated right now.
how to install this??i need help im new,
if you have root then you should have clockwork mod installed. which also
means you should have clockwork mod recovery installer. Which you will be
told that if you open the clockwork application. it is the first item in the
list. if it says it is installed you are fine. If it doesn’t then just
install the recovery.. If by chance you reboot to recovery but get the
default samsung recover instead of the clockwork recovery, just select the
second option which is install update packages I believe and it will then
launch clockwork.. hope that helps. .
howcome it says macnut r3 now on the website.
Because he just updated it since the post.. happens alot with trying to keep
up with development. They have moved from kernel 45 to 66.. so looks like I
have some more flashing and testing to do. its a challenge.

We shouldn’t have to be going thought this “it’s great, but no GPS and the data connection breaks” crap.
The Vibrant should have had Froyo forever by now, and be gearing up for Gingerbread.
It’s my last Samsung product. And the phone has a crappy battery life – it barely lasts 12-14 hours with moderate use.

Love this Rom……. running it right now as, I’m typing……
This is garbage! The vibrant should be on froyo by now! This is my last Samsung phone for sure!
already installed the rom but I can not make recovery so can someone help me please … (xtasis.at @ gmail.com)
It is installed through clockwork. Head over to the xda link to read up on it.
I’ve beeen running Eugene Froyo ROMs pretty much since he dropped the first one. Fantastic, IF you can live without the GPS and can deal with the data drops when moving from 2G/3G. Well worth it for me. This R2 is buttery smooth and fast on my Vibrant. Latest is R4 <24 hours after I got around to flashing R2. LOL
You're going to want the 1 click root app + ROM Manager for easy access to Clockwork Recovery + Titanium Backup (paid) to easily backup/restore all your apps.
BACK UP YOUR INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL SD CARDS TO YOUR COMPUTER BEFORE FLASHING A ROM. Read + follow the instructions, it's not hard.
I intall the rom but the sd card say scanning. I can’t use the camera. Please help me please
This rom is slow compared to bionix fusion w/ kings kernal.I always buy into the hype of people sayin these froyo roms are fast then I regret flashin them and revert back to bionix.Ive tried them all including this and r3 w/ oc kernal and despite high linpack scores the rom is overall laggy and far from smooth.I appreciate eugenes efforts, but I give up on these ports, hope official froyo is better:(
