An easy-to-access button on the front of the new T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide and the myTouch 4G allows the use of voice commands to control the phone. Users can say an entire command in just one shot, making it faster and easier to use their favorite applications and services. Messaging command, contact name, and message text can all be specified in a single command.
For example, just say:
- “Call Alex Jones at Home.”
- “Send Text to John Smith. I’ve got tickets to the Dodgers game tonight, you in?”
- “Search for Recipes for Chocolate Cake.”
- “Find Sushi Restaurants near me”
- “Get Directions to 1 Wayside Drive, Burlington, Massachusetts.”
- “Show me the Calendar” And much more!

Launching the Genius button is super easy to do, just follow the steps below.
- Press the Genius Button on the front of the phone and wait for the “beep”
- Speak your command clearly and naturally
- Genius Button will immediately process and complete your request

- Lookup <Name> – E.g., “Lookup John Smith”
- Change Mode to <Mode> – E.g., “Change Mode to Work”
- Help me with <help topic> – E.g., “Help me with my account”
- Get Driving Directions <Location> – E.g., “Get Driving directions to 1 wayside Road Burlington MA”
- Find <Business> – E.g., “Find Dunkin’ Donuts”
- Turn WiFi/GPS/Bluetooth <on/off> – E.g., “Turn Bluetooth On”

This is a feature of any Android 2.2 phone just hold the search button or softkey and speak. Its called voice search.

Good tip to use on my rooted Desire with Vlingo. Works great.
Yeah I have a rooted slide so I have tried both voice search and genius button. The genius button idea is a great concept except its very slow to load, and sometimes is WAY off. The voice search is much much more speedy I think it works a little better actually. I’m sure on the my touch 4g they did an overhaul on it and is much improved
It’s better than it was on the Slide, but still not quiet as fast as the Google Voice Search. But ful lyusable now on the myTouch 4G
This is app is pretty cool but it’s missing email reader and email reply. It also doesn’t have any way to update Twitter or Facebook. It also only works with your mobile phone. There is another Voice App that’s works better, sounds better and does all of the above. Check out http://www.voiceassist.com
Only problem is, it costs you $10 a month to use it and you have to call their number to use the service. There are other apps on the market that do the same and they are free.
vlingo (www.vlingo.com) is one of the best I’ve tried so far but they all have some issues.

i never use it i just want it to be a power button like on my G1 haha but the driver mode is good i have used it a few times
