Dell Streak UI: Tested And Loving It

In my never ending quest to find the latest and coolest stuff out there to share with our fans, I have stumbled across this UI thanks to another good friend of mine. We are all familiar with Launcher Pro and ADW launcher; there are many other UI’s out there to choose from as well. This particular one is from the Dell Streak. A few things to know off the bat, this requires Android 2.2 (Froyo) to operate. This works well on the My Touch 4G and the G2. I have personally tested this on Macnut R8 on my Vibrant and can confirm it functions flawlessly. Now on Macnut R9 and Macnut R10 the call button at the bottom is non functional. The dialer application works, it just isn’t connecting to the UI for some reason.  I have emailed eugene_373 to see if there can be a fix for this as I would love to make this UI my daily driver. Here are a few screen shots from my device as well as a great video:

Installation is easy. Just follow this LINK and pick up the file. Once it has downloaded, unzip the folder and move the Dell Stage folder to your phone’s internal storage. Access it as you would with your favorite file explorer. Install all 8 APK files and hit home to be able to select Dell Stage.

Final thoughts on this replacement: Facebook in the social widget seems to be having an issue. The Email widget lets me sign into my email but doesn’t display on the widget. I had very few moments of lag and those I had were few and far between. Even with those minor quirks I’d be happy running this as a daily home app. I was never able to get it into landscape mode on my Vibrant. I did some digging this morning and found a few answers on how to make that happen HERE. Also, don’t try this on a My Touch 3G, G1, Hero or any other lower end device. Regardless of running Froyo, the screen size and resolution won’t support this application. We have tried. I’m sorry. Stay tuned though as I will be putting out a great little release I found for you G1 users.

Give it a test and tell us what you think? Can you see yourself using this as a daily home replacement?

I worked at T-Mobile for 5 years. I was the go to guy for Android phones and training. That passion didn't stop even after my departure from the company. I currently moved up from my MyTouch 3G to a Samsung Vibrant. A lot has changed in a very short time. I look forward to all the latest and greatest every time I wake up.

Dialer doesn’t work on my DI and doesn’t go landscape either. Other than that, it looks pretty good.

Has a nice concept.. Just can’t log into facebook or create email account.. Also in need of a settings option other than going into main phone settings.. Still haven’t found a better ui than live home..
