We all knew it would come, but it sure got here fast. You can now make and receive calls on the new T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Tab. So let’s just skip all the talk and get straight on with how to use this puppy as a phone.

The first thing you have to do before anything else is Root your Tablet.

Now that you have root, we can proceed with the instructions on how to unlock the functionality of making and receiving calls with your T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Tab, so let’s get started.

As usual AndroidSPIN is not responsible for you making your device a nice paper weight, use with caution and if you have any questions or concerns, head over to the XDA thread and check out the latest.

This guide was originally post by Jyveafk on XDA.

Download Odin3 v1.70 to flash.

Use P1_20100909.pit for formating.
Selected ‘Repartition‘ ‘AutoReboot‘ ‘fResetTime‘.
That rebooted with nothing apparently working but the filesystem structure was setup.

Download P1000XXJHA for the base rom.

Then, unchecked the ‘repartion‘ part (as the structure is already setup, you don’t want to screw it up, the next flashing needs to ‘drop in‘ where the structure is.

Then, loading into the “JHA.rar” just downloaded, flash that and reboot.

To update to latest, download and flash “P1000OXAJK1.tar

Pop in your SIM.

At this point, reboot. It’ll probably show ‘Emergency Calls only

Went into the Wireless / Mobile Settings / Network Operators and made sure it was connected to T-Mobile.

At that point, I made my first call and it worked.

Received a call too, also working.

You should now be able to enjoy making and receiving phone calls on your new T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Have you tried this method? Did it work for you? Let us and others know.

That might have actually eliminated one of my three reasons for NOT getting a Tab. The other two being price and oh yeah, did I mention? PRICE.

    • The price is a little steep for a 2 year contract, however someone that would use this tablet on a daily basis would get their money’s worth.

For a daily use tablet, they’re probably better off going with the HP Slate. At least with that you get a full desktop OS and better screen resolution for a comparable price.

  2. Wait for the bill on this. Tmobile used to charge $.45/min for making calls using sim cards in authorized devices.

I just got one and I love it. Better size and allows You to do much more then the ipad. 399 is kind of cheap to be honest. And T-Mobile has the best monlthy rate for data going. I say go see it in the store and try it before you say anything. Its pretty impressive.

Do we know if this is on the data only sim card and line you get with the device our if this is for your actual voice & data line. Like my tmo sim in my Android Phone would work for this?

when I am making and recieving call by this method, should I charge more to t-mobile?
or can I use it for free?

Does anyone have the password for the P1000XXJHA.rar file??

  11. Very interested to know how the calls are working on the Tab and if there’s and additional charge. Considering purchasing one for my mother so she can have an ‘all-in-one” device that includes the internet, GPS, camera, AND PHONE. Choosing between the Comet and the Tab. Leaning towards the tablet b/c of it’s larger screen. Downfall would be the lack of phone use ability.
(Oh, can get the Tab for a limited time for $279.99 w/out 2 yr contract. [Requires 3 month, $49.99 mo, committment to 5G Data plan.] And the Comet for $169.99- no contract, no credit check, taxes included, with prepaid plans starting at $49.99 month. It’s thru PeopleZWireless. http://WWW.PHPICO.COM/LFREEMAN. Rep ID: 821426)
