Ah, the 7-inch Velocity Micro Cruz Tablet has finally hit the crucial stage of shipping, giving present and future tablet buyers even more choices as they head online this holiday season to find the best tablet for their needs and at only $299.99, this tablet is right in the price range for some. Although, it does come with some setbacks.

For $299.99, you’ll get an Android 2.0-packed tablet with 512MB RAM, 4GB and 8GB bundled SD cards, a 7″ 16:9 800×480 capacitive touch screen, 802.11n Wifi, a Li-ion battery with up to 10+ hours of life and a noticeable lack of the Android Market. Instead of the Android Market, you’ll find the Cruz Tablet comes preloaded with Velocity Micro’s own Cruz Market™, a substitute for the growing Android Market.

Now, for those of you who know your way around tablets so far, you’ll know that Android 2.0 is a bit far back to be on the Android release totem pole with 2.3 (Gingerbread) coming soon with possible better tablet support.

So, what do you guys think of the Cruz Tablet? Does it stand up the it’s competitors such as the Galaxy Tab, or the Advent Vega? Let us know your opinion in the comments!

Why does it seem no one else is excited about Amazon’s Android fork?

  1. Unless they plan future OS updates, and an awesome selection of apps to grab up in there market, I cannot see this Tab being anything more than an entry level gadget for buyers who don’t really know what Android can do. Galaxy Tab still takes the cake, however I would really like to see the Tab hardware and software implementation be more Tab than what it is now.

  2. Hey, I’m posting from my new Archos 70, a 7 inch tablet running 2.1 due for Froyo by the end of the month. They introduced their first Android tablet over a year ago. This is their 8th generation device. It has USB OTG and HDMI out and is 10 mm thick. I paid $275 for it. Do you guys have your head in the sand? Archos is the price/value device to compare. I have a 10.1 inch unit on order I paid $300 for.

  3. @Eric are you suggesting that the Archos 70 is the tablet to compare to the Galaxy Tab or to the Cruz Tablet?

I believe it is a excellet READER WITH EXTRAS. Actually i got $50 back from Best Buy since it is on sale now for $249.
It is a reader, you can watch videos ( even avi), excellent battery life, some web browsinfg, facebook, twitter etc…Can not handle many active games, but good for basic games.
For $249 is a very good deal…If you want a full tablet get a Galaxy or an Ipad and be ready to pay double
