Call this a knockout if you will. One UK online retailer, MobilesPlease, reported on its blog that Android phones are outselling Windows Phone 7 (WP7) by a whopping 15:1 margin.
According to the MobilesPlease blog:
Windows Phone 7 has got off to a sluggish start as far as our customers are concerned, accounting for just 3% of smartphone sales and a little under 2% of overall sales through MobilesPlease.co.uk and our network of partner sites that share our data feed.
The blog also noted that comparisons were made with a few other mobile phone retailers in the area, both network owned and independent. Although the retailers couldn’t provide numbers, they did acknowledge that Windows Phone 7 devices were not selling in their stores. Android phones are not the only threat to Windows Phone 7.
The blog also noted that Symbian smartphones are outselling WP7 by 3:1. Of course, then there is the iPhone, which has not been mentioned.
Do keep in mind that these are figures from a single online retailer. MobilesPlease is not the typical retailer – it is a price-comparison site for phones that also allows visitors to search for freebies that can be bundled up with their phone contract at purchase time.
It’s been a difficult start for Microsoft as its new flagship phone OS struggles to grab attention in the smartphone market. Since its launch, the device has been plagued by poor demand, undersupply, and lack of strong retailer support – a deadly combination that might just lead to the quick death of this phone series.
The holiday season seems to be the last line of redemption for the WP7; we wait to see if enthusiasm around this device will eventually increase – probably not. In a world of surging Android sales and continued iPhone popularity, it will be in Microsoft’s best interest to concede.

well no shit. its windows. nobody likes windows on their phone. the best thing about windows phone besides their beauty is the ability to run android on them with ease
I am an Android fan but I think you should avoid portraying yourself as rather naive in things mobile, I am in the UK and I’ve never heard of ‘MobilesPlease.co.uk’ or their so-called affiliated sites. If this was reported by the CarphoneWarehouse, it would carry more weight.
Also a point to note. Windows Phone 7 just came out in the UK early this month, what else do you expect??

With all of the Microsoft splash and money they are throwing at advertising, you would expect a little more on sales. I believe this is as good as its gonna get for Microsoft who so didn’t get it and still doesn’t appear to get it. 15,000 devs (as claimed) and only 3,000 apps to show for it is also a telling sign. If you are a dev, you want your app out there FIRST and rush to put out that first polished product. They’ve had the SDK for forever now yet nothing to show.
Its the tiles man…the interface is just plain butt ugly. Somewhere along the way, Microsoft lost the magic of their UIs and it hasn’t come back.
