CyanogenMod 7 isn’t the only Gingerbread build running around as an alpha. Team Whiskey just released its current alpha build of Gingerbread for the Vibrant yesterday. This current build is still super buggy, which is to be expected for an experimental build. Still though, it does show promise and mean that Gingerbread should be coming to us very soon.
Here’s the current list of issues with the ROM:
Known Issues:
– GPS broken
– Home is back, back is home
– Camera
– Only mounts internal sdcard
– Data works, however it takes 2-5 minutes to connect after boot. Works fine after.
One of the really nice features though that they have built into this ROM is dual boot support. Once you flash this ROM you won’t have access to ClockworkMod. In order to go back to your previous ROM you will have to boot into download mode and flash your previous 2.2 kernel through Odin and a .tar file. If you aren’t familiar with that process, then I suggest you be patient for a little while longer.
Feel free to read up on this highly experimental build at Team Whiskeys xda-developers page. Don’t forget we did an interview with the team last week, just in case you missed it, head back a few days to our Exclusive Interview and see what the team had to say.

Just got used to their latest and greatest nero v3 so I’ll wait till this is stable…v3 is way to good to give up
This looks as close to gingerbread as I need for now!!!
they have nero v5 out now, you best update to it, so so so much better and I loved v3
Give them time, they’ll get the problems fixed *installing Nero now* I <3 Team Whiskey.
Everyone is all about Cyanogen but TW has got it right, Vibrant is where it's at
Flashed this yesterday, and I couldn’t believe how smooth it was overall! Definitely not a daily driver but ran great to be an alpha build, looking forward to the official release. The crt screen animation is absolutely sick! The youtube videos really don’t do it justice. That also goes for all of the other little details in gingerbread, like how it lets you know you’ve scrolled to the end of the page, etc.
