Motorola Droid 2
A new, somewhat less-than-shocking study has been done involving the major carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon) and device manufacturers. The results were taken from 2009 though 2010. The study examines how many devices were updated to Android 2.2, and how long it took to receive the update. The study also took into account the devices that are still waiting to receive the froyo update.
According to the study HTC has delivered more 2.2 updates than any other wireless handset manufacturer, coming in at 50% of it’s handsets. Don’t count Motorola out just yet though, they were the fastest to get updates out to their handsets. The updates were sent by Motorola just 54.5 days after froyo was announced.
As far as the aforementioned mobile carrier – Verizon is king – taking only an average of 58 days to push 2.2. Rounding out the list was Sprint, T-mobile and AT&T. The report also states that AT&T did not update a single one of their 9 Android devices between June and December.
What do you think about the lack of updates?

At&t was on the iPhone ball sack now that S.Jobs is on verizon now at&t is pulling out the big android phones. I’m glad iPhone went to verizon over all the other carriers because verizon has the best in house comp. and this new motor beast phone will have apple fanboys even more jealous!!!!!!! Anyone else agree????
Verizon was actually offered the iPhone first. However, issues between in house support and data rights caused Verizon to pass. I’m guessing now that no one really ever pays for ringtones and applications are held down by in OS stores, Verizon could let up on the issues. However, I’m not sure how they’re getting by on the in house support bit, as Apple tends to be a giant douche when it comes to third party support of their products.
I cannot tell you how much this bothers me. I just jumped ship from T-Mo to Verizon (I used to work for T-Mo, now I work for Big Red). The differences are stark. I’d rather every carrier and every manufacturer update their devices in a timely fashion, but I know that will never happen. Samsung, in particular, sucks at it. The recent rumor is that they’re intentionally not upgrading the Galaxy S lineup because they are prepping new devices, and don’t want to steal their own thunder. That won’t be necessary, Samsung, as you’ve lost any thunder you may have had with this crap. T-Mo never updated anything, and never applied any pressure to the manufacturers to get it done. Let’s see, T-Mo phones that have been updated to FroYo- the myTouch 3G, in both versions. Which only sorta counts as 2 devices. The Slide, the Cliq/CliqXT, the Behold2, and the Vibrant are all waiting on one update or another. I loved my Vibrant, mostly because I hacked a virtually flawless version of FroYo onto it. But I shouldn’t have to hack a phone to make it awesome.
This is why I root. Get the updates whenever the dev’s release. Which with most phones is pretty quick. I’ve got T-Mob and would die trying to wait for an update. Thanx dev’s lol.

Good for those who don’t use at&t. Which sucks anyways because the don’t have unlimited data packages. Like why service android devices if ur not gonna allow free tethering.

I would have to say that TeamDouche beat both of them. http://www.cyanogenmod.com
Over 20 devices supported, and they are all on Gingerbread as of the 17th of January. So yeah… 31 days, just about?
And that’s a STABLE build. The Alpha builds have been out since New Years.
