How does $799 sound? If the screen shot sent to us by a tipster is the correct launch price and this is the off contract price, would you be willing to spend this much on a 10 inch tablet? Priced $30 less than the 32 GB wifi+3G iPad offered on AT&T, the Motorola XOOM has the specs to back up the pricing. This little gem not only gives us an idea of the pricing for the CES award winning tablet, but also a look at pricing for the first Verizon LTE device.
The HTC Thunderbolt phone is listed as $249.99, which we desperately hope is a pre-rebate price on a 2-year contract. With no release date announced yet for either of these devices (or plan pricing for that matter), you might want to start saving up now if you want to purchase one of these bad boys.

I just bought a iPad in November and I love it. I paid $500 for it. I didn’t need the 3G because I have wireless tether on my Nexus One thanks to Cyanogen. I wouldn’t pay $800 for a tablet.
$251
I’m not sure what people need or expect from their devices but I’ve got a rooted Nook Color that can do everything from deliver my magazine subscriptions to run Unreal Engine based games all for $250 and about a half hour of my time to root it. I can read ebooks, play games, web browse…aren’t these the same things you do with this $700 device? Then whats the point other than to push the technology forward?
I predict a $200 rebate in its near future…
No thank you.
Honestly, not a chance. I’ve been super excited about the Xoom since it was rumored forever ago, but if this thing costs $800 (and I’m not likely to sign a contract on a tablet, even for a subsidized price, unless it was like free or $100, which we all know won’t happen), there’s no chance. I have a rooted NookColor as well, put ADW EX on it, will put Nookie Froyo on it whenever it’s more stable, and it runs amazingly, and the price is unbeatable. I have my phone for a camera and tethering, so I don’t necessarily need those on a tablet, not for the $550 price difference between a Xoom and NookColor.
Dammit Motorola, didn’t you pay attention when Samsung released a $600 Android tablet, with good specs (the Tab really is a great device, hardware-wise, though it’ll be outdated soon), and basically everybody complained that it was too expensive? The Xoom should be like $500 unsubsidized, $600 tops. $800 is too much, hands down.
For $250 I am very happy with my Rooted Nook Color. Love it tethered wirelessly to my stock nexus one. Updated my market to 2.2. Anything $500 and above for an android or iOS tablet is too much.

300 tops for any tablet…they are glorified e-readers…i just bought a tablet pc for315…dual core 1.8 intel 64 not cpu,3gbram 100 gb hdd and prefect for touch screen with a stylus…use it when I go test at clients….why would I pay 800 for a crippled pc?
800 bucks for a simple android tablet is outrageous. As the other people have said the NookColor does everything and its a fourth of the price. A tablet doesn’t have to be a replacement phone (ie. Galaxy Tab). With this economy people are being smart and shopping around and frankly i doubt motorola sells too many of these.
I really wanted one but for that price–NO THANKS!!!
Id pay $500 tops regardless of any subsidies or lack thereof. If that’s the launch price then yep I’ll just buy a nook color root and overclock. It’ll save me several hundred dollars and do all I need it to do. By this time next year the darn zoom will probably depreciate by at least 50% anyway with all the competition coming. So $800 is pissing money away IMHO. Not even an idiot spends that much on a laptop or netbook these days and that’s what these devices are intended to replace. I think android people are much more value oriented people than the iDiots that purchase products from that other company. They have a name that commands a premium for their product. Moto does not. Oh and I think if they want more sales they should hurriedly adopt the samsung galaxy strategy and get it on all the carriers. Especially one willing to subsidize that $800 price tag. -PB
There is no way I would pay $800!! It’s an awesome tablet but it still has limited functionality so it should be priced cheaper than a netbook. Initially there will be very few Android apps that truely support tablets. I want one but it has to be at the right price. Motorola has lost it.
Im sure this will be the Ipad Killer – Im sure Apple is scared, problem is the Ipad2 will be out before this and will sell more in a day than xoom sells in a month
This is outrageously expensive. I’ll keep waiting.
300 tops… no matter what it has inside.
For the Atrix maybe up to 600 including both docks. Anything beyond that. They can keep it!
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.. about 200 anything beyond that is not worth the money.
Hey Ill pay 100 for a tablet dock for my Android device !
Now that is an idea.. slide the phone in, just have the screen and extra battery. Done!
No need to pay for the rest.
Actually, the Verizon contract is a non-issue. What you should worry about is whether you will be able to update your Xoom over WiFi, or whether you can only do it over Verizon’s network (something typical for most Verizon devices). If Verizon limits your ability to upgrade through their network only, that means that you would have to re-initialize your month-to-month, and I bet you they will charge you for that, on top of the monthly charges, taxes, etc. The fact that you have to activate your WiFi through a Verizon accounts points to the fact that your device is tethered to their system (I would suspect) with their added bloatware. I think that $800 initial pricetag is just the tip of the iceberg.
