I actually didn’t catch this whole ad while watching the super bowl, just remembered the Android robot. After watching it completely it’s clear that Sony was correct, “Android is ready to play.”, with new thumbs no less. With all the hype surrounding a Playstation influenced phone over the years, Sony has finally obliged. Starting with their Superbowl Ad, and now having a few providers confirm it, O2 Uk, Vodafone, and possibly Rogers, this machine is on it’s way to bring console like gaming to the cellular world with it’s gamepad and access to Playstation Suite. Sony now has a countdown on their facebook page, which is gearing up, or down rather, for the official announcement February 13. I’m sure a lot of us are waiting to see what/when provider(s) get this phone and when we get to take it home. I’d be willing to bet more info on this Android “PSP” reveals itself before the official announcement is made, and when it does it will be here. How many gamers out there see this as a viable gaming device?
Sony Xperia Play Quick Specs:
- Android 2.3 Gingerbread
- 4″ touchscreen
- 1Ghz Snapdragon processor
- Adreno 205 GPU
- 512Mb Ram
- 1GB Internal memory with expandable mirc0 SD slot

Any word on whether it’s a first or second generation Snapdragon? Are they sticking with the first-gen tech and relying on the GPU to do the heavy lifting?
It’s rumored to be getting the second-generation. Specs are few and far between.
I would think it would be second-gen since it’s coming with Gingerbread. Then again, it’s Sony…who knows!
