Gingerbread Updates in Q2, HTC Desire HD, Z, Desire, and Incredible S

11

With all the Honeycomb SDK ports flying around and Gingerbread updates rolling out it should be no surprise that HTC had their own on the way. A HTC spokesperson reported to Slash Gear “We are excited to announce that the Desire HD, Desire Z, Desire and Incredible S will receive the Gingerbread update in Q2.”.

This will make the second update for the Desire, the first one being the jump from Eclair to Froyo, and with the Desire S on the way, boasting better slightly better hardware, it ensures that the device is not completely left behind.

It’s good news either way for the Desire HD and Z owners. With the HTC Pyramid somewhere in the murky future and assumed to phase out the Desire HD and Z, the update will provide a buffer while those wishing to pick up the Pyramid have to wait. For those of you still madly in love with your phones, that don’t wish to upgrade, this just means the beginning of a whole new love affair.

The HTC Incredible S was only debuted a week ago, and is set to come prepackaged with Froyo rather than Gingerbread. So for those of you that asked about a Gingerbread update for this device, or why it weren’t coming with it in the first place, rest assured you’ll get Gingerbread.

I'm an avid technology lover. My first Android device was a G1; I fell in love (except for the battery), next I got a Samsung Captivate; error in judgment on my behalf, now I've moved on to the MyTouch 4G; which I absolutely love. What started with me just needing some kind of phone to use, i.e. free G1, ended with a new addiction.... I also enjoy long walks on the beach and luxurious bubble baths.... Oh wait.

  1. YES. That means the G2 will most likely be receiving an update too. :)

Yes but it is stated officially yet. Bring it on! It’s only a mater of time before android forces i phone to switch to android anyway. And android is partly(wishfully) open source. Android has came a long way and if they re frame from forking and stick to a six month release cycle the sky will be the limit! We relay need a standard for connecting android to our other devices , maybe kind of like i phone but more usb style. Especially for docks and car mount adapters. I think Google and t-Mobile should team up and kick some but!

Not exactly because they probably update their own version of Android OS “Sense UI” and the G2 comes with vanilla. But hey HTC has been proven to be one of the most up-to-date Android Smartphone providers out there! ;) So keep your hopes up!

CyanogenMod 7 is alright still has some kinks to work out like the camera software I almost forgot how crappy vanilla Android camera software was. The software on the mytouch 4G is sweet.

The G2 should get gingerbread first, I thought it was a google phone and supposed to get updates 1st? All we’ve got so far was wifi calling (which is great by the way). I’ve had my G2 since 9/30/10 and would love an OS update.
