We have all patiently been waiting to hear more and more goodies to come out of the on going Google I/O event. Some of the most recent announcements are geared to the Android Market. For those of you that are unaware, as a developer you application or game cannot exceed 50MB. This is relatively a large file size as it is. With the advancements in chip sets and graphic capabilities, its no surprise that apps and games are going to increase in size as time progresses.

Now that we are starting to see more and more dual core devices, along with new quad core chips on the horizon, Google needed to step up the limit in preparation for the inevitable. Developers now have a cap of 4gb. That is a huge jump and gives everyone more room to work and bring us even more graphical intense games and much longer epic style story lines. Take for instance many Gameloft games or the game imaged above, have external downloads of large sizes to use the game.
If you are scared about this improvement eating up all of your devices memory, don’t worry about it to much yet. With the ability to move apps to SD will save some phone memory, but ultimately won’t even be necessary. With this added benefit developers will also be able to blacklist their app or game from being purchased or downloaded by a specific device. This will ultimately help avoid bad ratings, bad comments and incompatibility. Should make life a lot easier for all of us.

I know some devs have been complaining about this for some time. . . should be happy now.
I have had to write this on several sites as there seems to be a bit of missing information from most articles I have read.
To clarify the APK packages in the market will still be limited to 50MB.But Google will also store up to two 2GB additional achieves on their servers which will install to the SD card.Nothing will change for the user. But for the developer, especially indie developers, they won’t have to set up their own servers to provide the additional files.
