So It Begins – CyanogenMod Development for the Samsung Galaxy S II

As we’ve seen with a few other manufactures Samsung is offering a bit of support to the development community and best of all it’s for CyanogenMod. CM developer Atinm, is the currently responsible for maintaining CM releases for the Samsung Captivate and Vibrant, and while they’ve just been officially rolled into the nightly releases within the past month a newer more powerful member will be on its way soon. Thanks to Samsung, Atinm has received a Galaxy S II to start development on.

The long wait for custom ROMS and mods that usually comes when adopting devices early seems to be becoming a thing of the past. As we saw with the LG Optimus 2X, and the T-Mobile variant the G2x, (which were already well on their way to CM builds within a few hours of purchase) serious development will be starting soon. Good news for those of you looking to pick up a Galaxy S II when and if they hit your carrier.

I'm an avid technology lover. My first Android device was a G1; I fell in love (except for the battery), next I got a Samsung Captivate; error in judgment on my behalf, now I've moved on to the MyTouch 4G; which I absolutely love. What started with me just needing some kind of phone to use, i.e. free G1, ended with a new addiction.... I also enjoy long walks on the beach and luxurious bubble baths.... Oh wait.
