T-Mobile G2′s Reign Coming to an End

9

Nearing a year on the market the G2 brought back feeling of nostalgia for past G1 users offering the Google experience everyone loved in a new sleek package. Still easily one of the bigger development devices with custom ROMs and modifications emerging daily. However just like a few of the other iconic phones such as the G1 it replaced the G2 it seems is finally nearing the end of its rope.

TmoNews has stumbled across an internal screen shot that has this developer phone marked as EOL, which means that support as well as sales will soon end. The is most likely due to devices launching such as the G2X along with the plethora of devices slated for Magenta coming closer. This device hasn’t even seen the likes of an official Gingerbread update, which T-Mobile has said that it;’s still in the works. Although It’s probably safe say most people who embrace the heritage of this device already have in some form. The EOL status doesn’t mean that it’s being pulled from shelves immediately, but you may notice that it’s no longer listed online. Either way you slice it, we’re going to see another great device begin it’s descent as others rise to the peaks.

I'm an avid technology lover. My first Android device was a G1; I fell in love (except for the battery), next I got a Samsung Captivate; error in judgment on my behalf, now I've moved on to the MyTouch 4G; which I absolutely love. What started with me just needing some kind of phone to use, i.e. free G1, ended with a new addiction.... I also enjoy long walks on the beach and luxurious bubble baths.... Oh wait.

That maybe true but like the G1 the G2 will be around for a very long time because of developers. My G2 is running 2.3.3 as we speak.

I’ve had no issues whatsoever out of my g2, including it’s hinge mechanism. You missed out :-)

i’m sure the devs will still support the g2! cm7 is running dam near perfect on the g2 while my g2x has slim pickings for roms! and maybe there is another g series phone in the works? who knows! for the 6 months i had my g2 i loved it tho! only reason i traded was because i found myself never using the hard keys with the ginger bread on screen being so nice…
