MyTouch 4G Gingerbread Roll Out is Official

11

We posted earlier there was a leaked MyTouch 4G Gingerbread leak that surfaced this morning. Some people speculated it was the official and final build of the software update that would soon be pushed out. Looks like they were right.

Even though you can locate the information on T-Mobile’s support page, that still doesn’t mean you are getting an update tomorrow, or for quite a while. The pilot program for the update will begin tomorrow and a handful of lucky pilot users will get the official update in hand. Once the pilot is complete (a couple of weeks) they will begin to roll the update out to all MyTouch 4G users. What I find so cleverly added to the post is “and will continue through the end of the year.”

This leaves the amount of time you might wait to get your update from T-Mobile anywhere from August to December. I can’t imagine it taking nearly 5 months for all users on the network to get their update. I can also almost bank on newly activated devices getting the update nearly immediately. Gotta make the new customers happy first ya know. It should to prove to be an interesting few months for MT4G users and T-mobile.

Time for an update. I am the proud father of three, 2, 8, and 11. I finally just moved up from the Samsung Vibrant to the Samsung Galaxy S III...... Let me tell you, it is mind blowing. I love Android, I love tech and I love my family. Not in that order though. I work to hard, play even harder and take care of all that are around me when I can.

If the phone is unlocked and on the Simple Mobile network, will it still get the OTA update?

I hate the rooting procedure for the mt4g but if this update isn’t the bees knees then I will be going with CM7 or whatever the cooler one out happens to be.

It isn’t as painful as it used to be.  if  you go to the unlockr or whatever it’s called and get visionary version 14 or later, It makes it really really easy.  and there are instructions for the files you need and where you need to put them.  I love root.

Hey guys and girls I am one of the lucky guys that got the update, but I check my software and it says 2.3.4 not 2.3.3. So when the real update come out will I get that too

    • Tj Jewett says:

2.3.4 is the real update.  2.3.3 was most likely skipped by t-mo/htc whoever and they opted to use 2.3.4 which happens to be the version of android that cm and most other devs use.  to be honest I’m a bit surprised they didnt just stick us with 2.3.3 and say “eh, good enough.”.  What I want to know is, how is the battery life on it?  I’ve been on cm for a long time and I like it alot, but part of me yearns for the sense lockscreen (well if they’ve done the sense 3.0 lockscreen that is)  and the camera.  I miss the htc camera.  The AOSP camera app really blows chunks.

The battery life is great so far I got the update around 10 and my battery is still full and it 6:34 pm, loving 2.3.4 update I got.
