The leaked version of the T-Mobile G2 Gingerbread update slithered its way to to the web only a few days ago. Then we heard about HTC sending out SD cards to stores packing the latest update for customers. Now, the official OTA is rolling out in typical phase fashion. You might wait a few hours, you might wait a few weeks, but at least you know it is coming right? Here is a list of what is going to be included and what will change.

The update provides the following enhancements and improvements.

  • New features:
    • Android  2.3.3 (Gingerbread)
    • Tell HTC
    • Google  Books added
    • Notification bar color scheme is changed to black
    • New  battery indicator, phone, and web icons
    • Color-coded network icon and signal indicator added. Green when connected to Google  servers. Grey when not connected.
    • Pressing the power key while on a call disables the proximity sensor
  • Fixed or improved  issues:
    • Wi-Fi calling improvements
    • New SMS and email notification improvements
    • Improvements to sending MMS from the Gallery

Good looking list in addition to the already much improved Gingerbread over Froyo ability.

The document located at T-Mobile.Support was just updated moments ago with respect to instore updates via SD card.

Beginning August 5, you will be able to go to  a T-Mobile retail store to update your T-Mobile G2, T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide, and T-Mobile myTouch 4G to the most recent software version. This helps  if you have not gotten the Over-The-Air (OTA)  update or if you cannot perform the USB tethered update.

I would say that if you don’t get the OTA by August 5th, call your local retail store, make sure they have the card in, make sure your device is over 50% charged and stop in.

Anyone out there get the OTA yet? How is it compared to what you have been stuck on?

I worked at T-Mobile for 5 years. I was the go to guy for Android phones and training. That passion didn't stop even after my departure from the company. I currently moved up from my MyTouch 3G to a Samsung Vibrant. A lot has changed in a very short time. I look forward to all the latest and greatest every time I wake up.

this is bullshit, the G2 should of been Gingerbread as soon as it was released from Goog, if this is truly suppose to be a damn google experience phone you know, and it wouldnt have HTC shit on it. I love this phone, I would of owned it IF that hinge wasnt so screwed the hell up.

  2. This took a long time, I agree with FILA above that the G2 should have had 2.3 at launch.

Oh well, I’ve been rocking 2.3 on my G2 for months so I guess it doesn’t matter.

    I read it’s the 2.3.4 update, not .3
